Remember Y2K? That's when I started using TurboTax. It wasn't as smart as it is today and there was nothing like e-filing, but it was a huge help completing somewhat complicated returns. Fast forward to today, it's mostly 1099Rs and RMDs. I just e-filed my federal and state returns and am celebrating 25 years of smoothly completing our returns. TurboTax is intuitive and comprehensive. Using the follow-along option virtually guarantees accurate returns and if you know what you're doing, you can move through the process even faster. Oh yeah, we even got a refund!

OK for basic returns, not for for complex items

Most went fairly smooth, however there were sections that I felt the instructions and the help screens were not clear.

Not good for non-US residents

Does not provide accurate information when the individual is a non-US resident. In my sister case she is a no-US resident that lives overseas but has a money invested in an annuity in the US. She recieved a 1099-R
from money she withdraw form that account. The software assumes she need to declare as a US resident, even though I stated she is not.

TurboTax and Intuit are con artists

The software is fine, but I could do without the constant upselling.
I also think everyone should know that the reason our taxes are so complicated is because Intuit spends millions of dollars every year lobbying to make our tax code complicated, and to prevent the IRS or other agencies from creating similar software that would be free. FREE! Instead, they keep us miserable to make themselves rich.

The e-filing experience was AWFUL. I had to enter my email address that I have used for 21 years nine (9) times before your system would accept it. BAD! You provide no reasons for the non-acceptance of a password I have used for years! AWFUL!!! Next year I may not use intuit turbo tax.
