Error 2 cost me about 6 hours of my time.
on April 2, 2025

I've used TurboTax for at least 20 years and have always had a great experience, until this year. I spend about 4-5 hours with technical support trying to figure out why I was getting an Error 2 when trying to transmit my return. I have TT installed on a fairly new Lenovo laptop running Windows 11. After trying everything, we tried connecting the laptop directly to my router with an ethernet cable. The transmit went immediately! Hopefully TT programs will do better than just provide an Error 2 message saying that the transmission didn't go through.

Getting Worse

Not user friendly, lots of irritating non-intuitive quirks like having to go internet to make a CC payment. The stupid window didn't give detailed instruction. Getting lazy.

Vert difficult time with TT2024 !!!

This year was a ball buster for me. I have used TT for about 15 years and this year was a mess starting from just wanting to install the program on my local machine and work it. It seemed to direct me to want to work my return on the cloud which was not at all what I wanted to do. Thank God I saved a copy of last year's returns on a thumb drive and noted that TT2024 could not find the tax file until I directed TT24 to last year's file I had copied. It was my understanding that TT each year will import the appropriate info from the prior year return, This same issue reared its ugly head when I sat down to do my 2022 taxes only to note there was no tax year 2022 tax file available in TT23.Lastly, I saved the file for 2024 and resumed working on it a day later only to note that data I had input the prior day was partially missing so I had to re-enter it again. All of these major issues should not be occurring. I am very unhappy with what used to be a stellar program now replaced with a cumbersome error--ridden albatross.

Avoid a Rabbit Hole

I wish the forms were shown parallel with the questions being asked. Also, up front qualification info would be useful so you don't go down a rabbit hole: for example, Medical Expenses - you need more than $7800 of expenses to qualify for a deduction. Also applies to other deduction loops.

Revert to old Investment 1099 interview process
on April 2, 2025

You should be ashamed with the new format for entering Investment 1099 information. I found it horribly confusing and not nearly as straight-forward as the old entry process. I was left with a feeling that information was not being entered properly; you don't want to experience that feeling when doing an income tax return.
As a prior SuperUser I'm aware that, for whatever reason, TurboTax is always making what they deem to be "improvements" in the product. Some changes have been improvements in my opinion, others not so much; the track record here is mixed. But if I had a seat at the table where this particular change was being assessed I'd vote a strong "thumb down."
