Several minor problems with 2024 TT Deluxe
on March 24, 2025

2024 TurboTax Deluxe
After installing and doing the first software update, TT said it would restart. It didn't. I had to launch it manually.
My W-2 from Nokia has a "/" in the control number. TT wouldn't accept that character. It looks like it wants to see a "-". I entered the W-2 manually.
When entering 1099-INT and 1099-DIV data, I am able to change the "Received from" text box to something more meaningful to me. When entering 1099-B data, there is no option to change the imported name. Support said this was a known problem since 2023.
TT keeps asking me questions about an RMD for pensions. There are no required RMDs for pensions. This was all very confusing. I know it has to do with Box 7 and other boxes checked off or not. Nothing has changed in the last 3 years of entering the same information. What has changed is that TT doesn't know it is a pension anymore.
In the "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" section, the dollar amounts I entered never showed up. I had to enter them a couple of times using "Update" and "Needs Review" until the numbers finally appeared.
When asking about state retirement income, TT truncates the name of an account from "North American Annuity RMD for Tom account #1234" to just "North American". We own 2 of these annuities and I can't tell which one TT is referencing. There is plenty of room to display the entire name that I previously entered.
In the PA state review, it asked for my 2023 PA taxable income. I don't know why it even asked. Why didn't it just import it from my 2023 TT file? I had to manually go back and open up the PA-40 PDF file and search for Line 11 to find and record my Adjusted PA Taxable Income.
Overall, I like TT and have been using it for 25 years. But every year, there are always one or more issues that keep coming up. Some are the same, year after year and others are new for each tax year.

I have been using TurboTax for over 10 years. I love this product.
This is the 1st time that it has given me an error message, detailing that I must file by mail for a $0 entry that it calculated for me for claiming an energy efficient deduction that I did not claim. So, knowing that being perfect for everyone 100% of the time is a stretch, I thought I'd try to make you aware of this issue.

Great Product. Another tax year completed!!!

Really disliked the changes to the entry of interest & dividend income this year. I found it confusing that I was asked which I wanted to work on first but was then presented with a list of all accounts in no particular order (those of dividend and interest bearing accounts). If you tried to go down the list in order presented (and you weren't lucky enough to have the initial account be of the type to chose) you could do nothing when you tried to open that account for entry. I think it was the 3rd or 4th attempt before I could ONLY enter things in the account type chosen. I would suggest returning to the "old" method or only have the prior year interest bearing accounts viewable when the choice of interest is selected. Hope you can make sense of that explanation.
Other than that unfortunate modification, I think this is a great product. I have been using this product successfully for at least 10 years without even looking around for an alternative.

I like TurboTax but a few things are annoying

In general I like TurboTax, but missed the page where they tell me what I should pay in estimated taxes. Not sure why TT has to update everytime I open it even in late March.
