Turbotax is the most friendly software I have used for taxes. I have been using it for may years and will continue doing so. I like the friendly interface and all the online help.

Turbotax missed over $1500 in refund

Turbo tax made a mess of my taxes, missing over $1500 in tax reduction (between state and federal). Of course they will say they didn't, but here are the issues I had:
I imported a consolidated 1099 from Schwab.
1. treasuries with Accrued Market discount (AMD) are reported in schedule B as interest. But they are not imported into Oregon State return as Treasury interest (where they are tax free) so I have to manually change the numbers in the state return. TT should flag this somehow. I had to discover it by eyeballing returns.
2. Unreported T bill sale is imported as capital gain, so has to be manually adjusted into Interest and capital gain. TT should ask the questions needed to flag this. Again, I happened to find it.
. Accrued interest paid on treasuries (and probably other bonds) is not subtracted from the interest.

It's pretty messy to fix this. Again, manual inspection.
4. Quite a few Entries in Investment and Interest section had "needs review" Flags, but these were not shown when return was checked. It was listed as 100% complete.
5, there are still problems that I have not yet resolved, for example whether or not TT is correctly handling monthly cost basis adjustments to GLD ETF.
Hard to describe how stressful and time consuming getting to the bottom of all this is/was.

The instructions in your Help Center for finding how to enter a forgotten IP PIN are unclear and incorrect. The procedure (or instructions) has to be revised because they do not work. In order to enter or correct an IP PIN, one has to select "Other Tax Situations" under the FEDERAL TAXES tab and then look for the "Identity protection PIN." Clicking on the IP PIN's "Update" button will bring you to the page where you can add or correct the PIN.
In addition, you should give explicit instructions about how to enter an IP PIN when only one member of the joint tax filing has one. This has happened to me before, but I cannot remember how I resolved it last year.
I think this is a programming bug on the part of TurboTax.

Great tool, with some bizarre glitches

I've used TurboTax for many, many years. Can't imagine doing my taxes the paper and pencil way I used to. Love this product.
That said, you've had some interesting glitches in the software this year. I use the Mac version, on a Macbook Air running Sonoma 14.5. Multiple times a page displayed with no "continue" nor "back" buttons. This was generally repeatable, and occurred even after downloading the latest upgrades. Proceeding along the normal path would simply show a page there was no way out of. It took a variety of bumbling to find a way past these pages. This failure at a very basic level did not generate a feeling of great trust in the product. I hope, and blindly assume, the software is better in the areas of actually generating the proper tax returns. Hoping for better, more reliable performance next year.
