Poor transition between desktop and online version

I initially started using TurboTax Deluxe online but later realized that the online version did not include a free state return, so I had to switch to the desktop version. This limitation itself did not make any sense, but the transition between the two versions was even worse. There was no way to merge my local tax records with my online records, meaning I had to start over from scratch if I wanted to access my previous local tax returns. Additionally, I had purchased audit defense for my online tax return, but I couldn’t transfer it to the desktop version—even though both were linked to the same account.

Would not print my return

Turbo tax would not print my return while the computer would print anything else including previous years returns. As a result, I could not mail returns by mail costing me an additional $50. I filed Federal a few days ago, PDF my return, but Turbo required me to install updates before it would file, and after doing so indicated it had not been received and quickly took me to indicate return had been received.

Good product with hidden fees!

The tax preparation itself was good and wanted to give a 5 but was surprised by the hidden processing fees of $40 on the last payment page. This should be declared ahead of time, so that we can make the decisions.

Spouses in different states deserve your attn too

Desktop version for spouses living in different states is absurdly clumsy. Instructions online are superficial at best. I have to make my own instructions and turn to those each year. Why not provide real step-by-step instructions? Also, why not have Desktop work with any Mac OS features (eg, saved contact info, two-factor-authentication)? Why not use large, modern type fonts and have screens that actually match the info (eg, Large green text: "Congratulations you qualify for a tax deduction!: Then small font: you already capped out your deductions") or tell us to stop typing in deductions if we've already maxed out?
