Using Turbo Tax this year was very frustrating, because we had income from lending shares in a brokerage account, and Turbo Tax wanted to take our 1099-MISC income and force us to file Schedule C for business income, which it is not. We had to turn to online forums for information so this is a known problem year-over-year.

turbo tax had glitches!

as turbo tax guided us through various areas of income, it wasn't prompting us to the correct areas to enter amounts from various boxes on the tax forms, especially in the educational section. It had some of the questions already check marked off on answers we didn't either see and/or choose, or it inserted check marks over when we first started turbo tax up to transfer from the year before. It just seemed more complicated this year and we had to also go through each review all areas/edit areas to make sure nothing was inserted incorrectly or transfer was incorrect.

Had difficulty understanding how to save a completed file. Had to re-enter expenses second time after discovery that initial expense entry and file saving did not capture the original expenses entry.

Turbo Tax is a good deal

I've used the Turbo Tax CD's for years so downloading this year was a bit scary (I'm not very tech-savvy) but it turned out to be quite easy! It probably helped that I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 11 and lots of bells and whistles. My old one took forever to download anything, including the Turbo Tax CDs. The downside of this years filing was that although I've been using Turbo tax for years, this version couldn't find my previous information. I switched laptops in the past and my information was still available so I don't know what the problem was this time. Consequently, everything had to be entered again manually. Annoying but not a deal breaker. Still more affordable than some online competitors and easy for us non-tech types to use.
Pros: My employment status changed this year
