2024 TurboTax is in Poor Shape
on March 21, 2025

I have been a TurboTax user for 26 years, since 1999. After filing my 2024 federal income tax with TurboTax Desktop, I will likely use a different tax solution going forward. Intuit has ruined what has formerly been a smooth experience. 1) Your web sites (turbotax.com, intuit.com) are so confusing now. You push users into the online version of TurboTax, which I will never want to use. Users are forced to log into an Intuit account, and then it assumes you're trying to do your taxes online, instead of just browsing the web site. 2) You allow downloading desktop versions of TurboTax without requiring a purchase. Why? This makes the hunt for an activation code, that you will never find, very frustrating. 3) The desktop software is so buggy this year. When entering W-2 information for my spouse, TurboTax assigns entries to the wrong person. Clicking back and forth through the interview, without changing any entries, TurboTax switches between owing taxes and getting a refund. Took hours to resolve, yet no entries were changed. 4) Why is interest income now considered Investment Income. Had to redo the interview for that one. 5) The wording of many interview questions is unclear. One example: "Did [dependent] file this return just to get a refund of withheld tax?" Of course not! There are many reasons to file a return. Better wording might say, "Has or will [dependent] receive a refundable credit? [Link to: What is a refundable credit?]" 6) [Transfer Return] button is broken unless you quit and restart TurboTax, log into Intuit account, and try again. If login is required, why not do so before starting the interview?! Overall, using TurboTax this year was a very frustrating and time-consuming experience. So sad.

I didn't like that i had too pay for two extra states, and I had to pay for the e fling of Kansas and NY State. The 1099 DIV and 1099 INT input screens were not working correctly. It was hard to delete plan forms.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great program, not at all happy with the Help Center. I prefer they offer a call center. I wanted to start from the beginning of my state filing but was forced to find and correct my mistakes in order to file, losing precious time for other things that require my attention.

Turbo Tax is easy to do, it gives the preparer a step-by-step question to follow. All I need is to answer the questions. The best is that it can pull up my previous tax return & this helps me to save a lot of time of preparing the tax.
Pros: I moved
