Turbo Tax Works!

I have used Turbo Tax since its inception decades ago. The mountain of federal forms and associated confusing instructions made it virtually impossible to prepare my relatively basic taxes without an accountant or tax preparation program. Turbo Tax has continually improved over time, and with the ability to switch between forms and step-by-step, and select what one chooses to work on, it is extremely flexible. Importing investment data is a breeze. The explanatory inserts are also most helpful. It navigates through the maze of federal forms and selects and completes all the necessary paperwork. It also provides optional lines to enter detailed individual entry notes for one's personal use, which can serve as reminders for the following year. The optional assistance serves as a backstop if one ever encounters an unusual issue. In summary, it works and is cost effective. I highly recommend the program!

Good product lacking key feature

Overall a good product that makes it easy to do your state and federal taxes. One significant feature missing from the product is the ability to easily compare results between filing jointly vs. individually. The only way I could find to do this was using the "what-if" scenario which is quite cumbersome and time consuming. It forces one to re-enter data from from one of the two "filing separate" returns. Then if the joint return is a better option, one must edit one of the "filing separate" returns to change it to joint and once again re-enter data now for a 3rd time!
If TurboTax were to fix this deficiency so that data for two individuals only had to be entered once to compare joint vs individual filings, I would give the product a 5 star review. Until then, I cannot justify more than 3.

Error message associated with transferring data.

Not sure why, but initially when I put in deductions there was no visual calculation that the app accepted those deductions. As a result, I entered those deductions about five times without any confirmation. Once I exited deductions the app calculated those deductions five times resulting in having to delete four of the deductions that I had entered. During the final review I received an error message about an ID number that was transferred from the previous year. The app recommended that I edit the number or confirm that it was accurate. I confirmed the number, but the error message remained. Because of the error message it would not allow me to complete the state return. A few days later when I attempted to complete a different return, the app recommend that I perform the lates updates. After the update was completed the error message associated with the first return I entered went away.
