Great Bose Sound Quality, Long Battery Life

I have been using the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds exclusively for around a month now and my first impression was that the sound quality that Bose products are known for is there as always. This is the first time I've seen earbuds like these, where they somehow magically work by utilizing the ear pinna in contrast to being inserted into the ear canal. I suspect this will actually help protect hearing, while still being able to achieve great audio quality. I'm very familiar with Bose products, having used their noise-cancelling headsets (both wireless and wired) as well as their awesome aviation headset. Prior to getting the Ultra Open earbuds, I mostly use a competitors product named after a fruit...;) In any case, I actually think that the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds can fit a separate role outside of noise cancelling style of earbuds. First, if you are wanting to listen to music, podcast or whatever yet still want to actually hear what is going on around you, this is where these shine. It's not like wearing a cheap pair of earbuds that you by default can't hear your music when there is too much external noise though. These you can somehow hear important things (like the wife or kid talking to you), while still hearing your audio with perfect quality. Now while I would not recommend wearing earbuds/headphones while driving, these would be the only ones I'd feel comfortable wearing because I can still hear what's going on in the world outside. I also utilized the earbuds while exercising and doing farm work outside. They didn't fall out/off, though I did have to adjust them from time to time to keep it on the sweet spot of my ear for best audio quality. I would say that they stay on the ear better than the competitor product (named after a fruit). Now if you are trying to actually cancel out external sounds AND hear audio in your earbuds, these aren't really meant for that. I tried using them while working on my tractor and the tractor was simply too loud to hear my audio. Not a big deal though because like I said, these earbuds fulfill more of a role when listening to audio when you NEED to hear things externally. Battery life is seemingly infinite (I realize it's not really but it seems like it) when compared to the competitor product I mentioned. I haven't been able to actually deplete the batteries and have used them non-stop for 4 hours or so. I believe there is a battery saving feature of these earbuds where they seem to "turn on" only when audio is detected vs on at all times. It probably helps the battery too that there isn't any noise-cancelling. This battery saving feature did have one downside in limited circumstances though. When listening to something where audio is also intermittent (ie. Instagram Reels, language learning apps like Duolingo) you will sometimes have a slight delay when the earbuds will sense the audio then "turn on". To get around that you just have to replay whatever audio you are trying to listen to once you can tell the earbuds turned on (you will hear them turn on, though I don't know how to describe it). I kind of suspect that Bose may be able to do some software update to turn that feature off in the future (with the downside of reducing battery life?) but I have no idea if that is something that is possible. All in all, I would recommend the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds over any other competitor of a like product if you don't need the noise cancelling features.

Amazing sound and comfort. Next level earbuds

I went ALL IN and wore them for days for many hours. I was amazed at the sound quality and ability to hear the world around me. It's tough to explain but they are loud enough to block out sound but not completely noise-canceling. Running/biking but need to hear cars or horns or at home/work when you have to pay attention to phones or a child. The open earbud is perfect for when you still need to pay attention to your surroundings.
2. SOUND: The sound is amazing and the immersion sound (surround sound) is very cool. You can hear background sounds like being in a theater or concert. Perfect clarity and good bass but lacks that in-ear/over-the-ear extreme bass for music.
3. COMFORT: The fit was weird at first because we are all used to the in-ear concept. Once they wrapped around the ear and settled in, I didn’t even know they were in. They are practically weightless and I only took them off to charge. Great battery life.
4: In the Bose App., I loved that I could switch between devices, connectivity was quick and easy. Nice feature.
OVERALL: These new concept earbuds have amazing sound I really like that they aren’t completely noise canceling. Great for interacting with surroundings while also enjoying personal background music You have to give them a chance and you will understand why they were created. Don’t be resistant to trying something new.

A Welcome Addition to A Stacked Lineup.

These Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are a great addition to my Bose Earbud collection! I've had a few different sets of earbuds in my time, and I've always come back to my Bose set for the noise cancelling, comfort, range and ease of use, and overall sound depth. Where these new Ultra Open Earbuds add to the market is in the fit, function, and overall music experience. These things are perfect for when you want great sound and still want to hear what's going on around you. In addition, the immersive sound feature is something you have to experience yourself.
Pros:
Design: At first glance, I wasn't sure about this design and its ability to stay on your ear, but once I figured out the fit from the instructional videos, I was surprised at how well they stayed attached with the unique fit. I tried everything to get these to fall off. From shaking my head vigorously to jumping up and down. I tried them on my family members too. Once that didn't work, I took them through some group exercise classes and a three mile run. They stayed on perfectly. The different feel does take a little bit of time to get used to as you may feel like they will come off, but they didn't. As an added bonus, I tend to perspire pretty heavily when I work out and the open ear design allowed this to be less of a problem than with the usual closed ear systems (the more you sweat, the more often the earbuds come off; these stayed on the entire time without any adjustments).
Immersive Sound: This is where these buds shine. The immersive sound feature turns your listening into a concert like sound experience. When you move, it feels like the sound is following you along. You have to experience it to understand.
Uses: Working, exercise, going on a walk, cleaning around the house/yard, you name it, I tried it. They are just a good all around set of earbuds.
Cons: These do have cons, but they are mostly due to things the buds are not designed to do.
Noise Cancelling: With the open ear platform, the sound of your environment gets in. These are not designed for noise cancelling, quite the opposite. They are designed for you to hear your environment, and your tunes at the same time.
Bass: Again, with the open ear style, you lose some of the driving bass you can expect from a noise cancelling pairing like the Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds. When I want some thump, I turn to my quiet comfort.
All in all, these buds and associated features are an unique set up to enhance a crowded market. The open ear buds are a game changer for letting in the sound, but having the sound travel along with an active user.
Response from bose.comBy Global Customer ServiceMarch 11, 2024
Thank you very much for your review of the Ultra Open Earbuds! I'm delighted that you're happy with the design and sound of the earbuds.

Since you mentioned bass performance, if you're not completely happy with the earbuds' bass response, you can adjust the bass (and the midrange and highs) via the EQ section of the Bose Music app. You can access this from the product control screen.

Warm regards

My new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are officially my new favorite eay to wirelessly connect to my devices!. They are light as a feather which means I can listen to my devices longer without the ache my other earbuds cause. Listening to music outside and being aware of my surroundings was a balancing act, not anymore. Not only am I able to listen to my play list as I go for my daily run, but the open ear design allows me to still be present and alert to my surroundings. Did I mentioned the amazing sound quality!!! These for me are a win, win!

Better than airpods!

I've been using this product for at least a month now and I love them! The only earbuds I had used before were Apple Airpods, and I rarely used them. I liked being wired because the airpods didn't fit well in my ears, and especially did not fit well when working out--they'd fall out. These earbuds barely moved during an outdoor run, and they sit comfortably in my ears. I love Bose headphones overall, and like the variety of modes with this one, it's like having surround sound when listening to music.

Great daily earbuds for casual listening

These earbuds fit the exact opposite use case of closed/noise canceling earbuds. Being able to go through all my daily tasks and activities with background music while still being able to hear everything around me is a breath of fresh air. The open-ear design really does make a difference since all other earbuds have some degree of passive noise cancellation so listening to music and hearing a friend's voice an all its clarity is a pretty cool experience.
Sound quality is surprisingly very good. I thought having an open-ear design would hinder it's sound quality greatly, but it still sounds very good to me. I usually have these at a lower/medium volume so it's almost like a cafe setting of having music constantly in the background while I talk with friends or coworkers. Once you put these at a louder setting it does lose slightly lose it's privacy, but the details and fullness of the sound really comes through.
The fit and comfort is a bit of a learned experience. Since it 'bands around' your ear rather than going in your ear, you really need to find a comfortable sweet spot. When these are resting all the way down on my ear against my earlobe then I'll start feeling discomfort fairly quickly, but if I move it up on the middle area of my ear then I can leave it there for hours. The comfort at this sweet spot is wonderful because combined with it's weightless feel, most of the time I forget it's there. I tried jogging and playing tennis with these on and it surprisingly stayed on. It took a moment to trust that they weren't going to fall out, but eventually I was able to relax and just enjoy my exercise listening to music and bantering my friends at the same time.

Great Product

I own Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and have been using them when commuting or exercising. They are comfortable but after a long while, my ears would feel a bit sore. Don't get me wrong, I still think these Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are great noise cancellation earbuds.
Then came Bose Ultra Open Earbuds. These open earbuds are very comfortable in my ears. I was worried they would not be secure inside my ear and would fall off when I am running, but surprisingly they fit securely and very comfortably in my ears. The quality of the sound is great as well.
Next upgrade - noise cancellation open earbuds. But I don't mind the current one does not have noise cancellation functionality because I usually turn off the noise cancellation functionality when commuting or walking so I am aware of my surrounding.

Ive been using my new open earbuds for a few weeks now and I am really enjoying them. They are great when I am at the gym and need to talk. It’s so nice to not have to pause my music and take out my earbud to have a conversation. I also really like the fact that I can be aware of my surroundings when I am out jogging or walking on the street. They are so comfortable you may forget you even have them on and the sound is really clear!
