This coffee maker is truly not worth the price tag. It is difficult to use, even more difficult to clean and overall is a very irritating coffee making experience. Nothing about its functions are clear or user friendly. And I’m not a boomer, so.

Having difficulty in finding the right balance for taste

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we're very sorry to hear about your experience with our Philips Espresso Machine. Your utmost satisfaction is extremely important to us and we'd like to help you resolve it.
It appears you're having difficulty with drink quality. We assume you've tried adjusting the grind settings, temperature, and water volumes, as well as the type of bean you're using. If you've already brewed several cups, and you're brew unit is consistently cleaned and greased, but the taste is still off, you may try setting everything to a baseline, and dialing in the setting from there. For example, set grind at 4, temperature at maximum, highest aroma strength, and water volume at factory. Then, brew a few espressos. Test the quality, then adjust water volume down one step. Try reducing water volume one step at a time, and taste the difference with each. Then adjust down grinder setting, brewing a few espressos in between each adjustment. You're looking to get the puck to be solid, which indicates a properly brewed, strong coffee.
We do have another suggestion that may help. Please go to our YouTube page and search for this title: "Philips Series 5400 - General Instructions".
If this does not resolve the issue, or you need further assistance, please reach out to us via the general support pages on our home.id website. Be sure to reference this review & have your Philips product handy so that we can better assist you.

Absolute Pile of Hot Garbage - Don't Make My Mista

I was dumb enough to purchase two of these machines in the last five years. Learn from my mistake.
My Philips 4300 lasted about a year and a half before the 3-way solenoid valve went bad—a well-known defect that Philips still hasn't bothered to fix. Even with meticulous maintenance, it completely died at the three-year mark. When I needed a replacement, I foolishly hoped the 5400 would be better.
It wasn't. This junk still dumps a disaster of coffee grounds all over its own insides, requiring a messy weekly cleanup. The cheap plastic clip that locks the brew group in place broke the very first week during a routine rinse.
And this morning, the machine decided it's done working. It will grind the beans for any drink I select, then simply cancel the cycle as the brew group audibly struggles to pull a shot. Yes, the brew group is clean and lubricated. Yes, I've tried adjusting the grind size. It doesn't matter.
Save your money and buy something else. This machine is full of cheap plastic that is engineered to fail. I cannot believe Philips charges a premium for a product that can't even manage its own coffee grounds. This thing isn't just expensive; it's an insult.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love the selections that the machine offers you from espresso, cappuccino, latte, and other hot and cold drinks. The self grinding makes the machine even better and provides fresh coffee every time. The LCD screen is easy to read and make drink selection a snap. My only criticism I wish the water tank was larger as it needs to be filled quite often. Otherwise works well.
Awesome grind and brew! Great flavor and super easy to use. Love the wide variety of drinks too! My wife even quit going to Starbucks every morning and is making her coffee at home.
It’s so nice to have freshly ground coffee on demand. At first I wanted a larger mug but quickly adapted to a fresh second cup instead of cold bottom of the mug. I love it so much.
