The ultime carry-on

Received the bag today and I'm already in love with it! I take over 150 flight a year and the issue I currently have with my other carry-on is: 1. Have to carry laptop in separate bag 2. The bag itself is much heavier 3. Opening the bag in two is always complicated unless you are in a quiet place Roller Pro solves them all and is so sleek and easy to... will be dropping my Tumi !

This looks like a great product - well built, quality materials. I just received it so have not yet used it, but it looks like it will work well.

Sadly a couple of dealbreakers.

The many positives for this carry-on is overshadowed by a few greatly overlooked issues when it comes to carry-ons.
The Roller Pro looks amazing and has an amazing internal layout. The wheels make it effortless to move it around even on uneven ground and the drawbridge opening makes the trip through the security checkpoint and general use easy
It is however nearly 4kg, taking up nearly 50% of the allowed weight limit on most airlines. Just putting a camera with a lens or a laptop with a heavy power brick can force you to just fill the rest of the volume with just air, maybe a few socks and underwear.
It will also fail the size check on nearly EVERY european airline. It's height and depth is oversized. Due to the size alone this can become a 600$ headache not including the extra baggage fee that you might get. I've already failed this check once, but luckily avoided the fee on a short haul route.
I sadly bought this without checking the measurements because I've gotten so used to any serious luggage company having this locked in. If I could make the buying decision again I would wait for a v2 or a Roller Pro Lite. The size problem alone isn't something you should expect for a carry-on at this pricepoint.

Needs 2 roller blade wheels for serious travel.

IMO Design is not quite there - it's the spinner wheels that prevent me from buying.
We currently use Osprey Ozone which has 2 wheels, roller-blade type. We have traveled to many cities, hill towns and villages in Tuscany, Norway, Germany, Spain, etc. and all those broken pavements, gravel paths, stone cobbles, curbs and steps don't stop our bags. Spinners are great for smooth pavements and airports, but - IMHO - spinners do not cut it in many, many places in Europe. To me, in the 2-wheel mode, the wheels are just too small and light for normal use in those locations. I have seen people carrying their spinner luggage in their arms across rough pavements. I have a nice photo of a spinner wheel ripped off and lying on the pavement in Bergen. I really think 2 wheels are the best.
Don't get me wrong, spinners look sexy - marketing videos of people effortlessly spinning them 360 or gliding along in the airport. Maybe great for road warriors, business people who spend a great deal of time in airports, but I don't travel to spend my time in airports. Yes, we used to do backpacks until a few years ago; but approaching 75 we need wheels, and sturdy wheels that will hold up in the places we go.
Given how the bag opens, with the solid base, this might be a useful mod. So PD, how about the Adventure version of this luggage?

I wish it was bigger and had a larger expansion

I bought the luggage on the Kickstarter program. The space inside is a bit small for using as just luggage. For a quick overnight maybe.

Be very careful when buying the eclipse bag. In many of the photo's it appear brown but be warned that it is extremely plum purple. Otherwise nice bag but surprisingly heavy.

Thoughtful Design

I just took a weekend trip with my new roller pro and I couldn’t be happier. When I was packing to leave the interior pockets were easily accessible with the lid in the upright position. I use packing cubes and the bungee system held everything in place perfectly. For this trip I didn’t take my MacBook Pro but I did bring along my iPad in its place. As advertised the magnetic closure held tight but was easy to open when I wanted to grab it. Can’t wait to use this on longer trips and with all my full sized camera gear.
I would recommend this to a friend!
