Tandoori oven breads and barbeque chicken (tandoori chicken) are very popular at Indian restaurants but very difficult to make at home without a tandoori oven. The air fryer of this oven lets me get very close to that served in an Indian restaurant. But if you want restaurant level perfection just google DIY tandoori oven using terra cotta flower pots and make one on the cheap. For me, however, this is close enough.
This replaced another toaster oven/airfryer from a highly rated brand that we had for only 2 months. It could not bake without convection - my wife could not bake a decent banana bread in it, the toast came out dry. The Breville does everything properly - it allow one to turn off the convection, it bakes banana bread perfectly, toast comes out great, French fries are excellent (fresh potatoes), it's large enough to hold a medium casserole - with lid. We have had it for a few weeks and have yet to find a complaint. Definitely worth the higher price. We had a Breville toaster oven, but wanted the air fryer feature. We gave this (10 years old) to a neighbor, and she loves it. Breville makes a good product!
This is my second Breville after several others. I love the functionality and how easy it is to use this oven. I especialy wanted the air fryer function. It works really well; I've tried several recipes. Its a bit of a pain to clean, not sure how that can be improved. But I'm sure that will happen with subsequent models.
