We had our first Breville kettle for lots of years. We use it several times every day and it just kept going strong. We finally got a new one and we like it even better. Being able to see the water level from either side of the kettle is a big improvement. Very reliable product. Highly recommend.
I had a Beville soft top for over 15 years and loved it. Used it at least several times a day because I'm an avid tea drinker. Finally it died of old age. ;-) So I ordered a new one. Works just as great as the old one. Amazingly it still cost just the same. I can continue to drank tea for the rest of my days. I'm 77 so this pot might outlast me.
Level indicator not illuminated, difficult to read.

We had an older Breville Icon kettle which had a water level indicator that illuminated when the kettle was turned on. This was super easy to read.
This kettle, the "Soft Top Pure" does not illuminate the water level. IF your kettle resides somewhere with LOTS of light from above or behind, you might be able to see the water level. If it resides on the back of a counter, you need a flashlight to see the water level.
Frustration built for several weeks, and then we returned it.
Who thought putting a wind-chime like bell on a kettle was a good idea? The most annoying feature, mentioned nowhere on the box. A terrible idea. Lookinf for a way to dissemble the kettle now and remove the bell. Would not have bought if id known.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Warran, We understand the chime may be a sound that can be frustrating for some however we do not recommend dismantling the kettle to remove it. If you could please send us an email to askus@brevilleusa.com, we would like to see what we can do to assist.
I have had my soft top for almost 15 years. My first issue is that the on light is starting to go out. Still heats great! Family members have replaced their hot pots multiple times in the time I have owned my Breville.
Switch and water column indicator housing trim breaks

Like other reviewers, the water column indicator housing plastic trim on model SK500XL Soft Top Pure has broken many times and has been successfully reglued. This last time however, the switch also broke away from the housing and no longer functions. It appears to be a design or materials issue with this model since the water column indicator has been moved from the back to the side on the newer models. That said, the kettle has served us well for about 5 years but I may look to other options for my next kettle.
I bought the older model Breville Ikon, thinking it will last forever. After 5 years of use, the dark-grey, plastic support holding the water level indicator (which was behind the handle in the old model) cracked on both sides, nothing leaks so far, but it's not the most esthetic thing you expect from a close-to-hundred-dollars kettle!!
