Great kettle with one major flaw!

This is the second kettle I bought thinking the cracked lid issue would have been resolved but alas! The lid still cracked badly. I searched for a replacement part since there seem to be screws to remove it but I have not seen where I can get one. Please advise if there is a place to purchase the plastic part of the lid. I hesitate to buy another if this issue is not resolved. I love the wide mouth so I can get my hand in there to clean out the hard water scaling! Otherwise it is a great product!

Solid Performer

We just replaced our first Soft Top kettle with this new updated model. And so far it seems to be built just as well and we're expecting to get many years of great service from this one too. The one change in this new design though that I'm not so happy about is the change in the water level indicator. The old one had a level indicator behind the handle, that would be illuminated when you turned on the power switch. For me, the behind the handle location as well as the light made it very easy to see how much water was in the kettle. With this new kettle, the water level reading is done by the clearish dual water windows on either side, which rely on positioning the kettle where there's light behind it, and since we put ours toward the back of our counter, under some cabinets, there's not a lot of light to be able to read the water level.

The king of all kettles!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Breville Soft Top Pure Kettle for about a week now and already I can tell that it is a huge upgrade to the old plastic kettle that it replaced. This is a very fine, high quality kettle. And in the world of kettles, it simply does not get any better than this. Made of stainless steel and well designed, this thing looks stunning sitting on the countertop. With a large capacity of 1.7 liters, it holds a lot of water! Perfect for a single cup of tea or for cooking up a big pot of boiling water, this thing heats up water quick! It has water boiling in about half the time it took with my previous plastic kettle. The top of the kettle opens up slowly and smoothly with a push of a button, and then snaps shut securely. What I really like about this kettle is that it has a built in filter that helps removes scale buildup, which ultimately results in cleaner water! The scale filter is easy to remove and easy to clean. I can see the Breville Soft Top Pure Kettle lasting years and years to come. This is my first Breville product but certainly won't be my last.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Level indicator not illuminated, difficult to read.

We had an older Breville Icon kettle which had a water level indicator that illuminated when the kettle was turned on. This was super easy to read.
This kettle, the "Soft Top Pure" does not illuminate the water level. IF your kettle resides somewhere with LOTS of light from above or behind, you might be able to see the water level. If it resides on the back of a counter, you need a flashlight to see the water level.
Frustration built for several weeks, and then we returned it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice design but doesn't last long

I've been using this nice kettle for 3 months and the glass cap is cracked already. Very poor product quality for this price!

Switch and water column indicator housing trim breaks

Like other reviewers, the water column indicator housing plastic trim on model SK500XL Soft Top Pure has broken many times and has been successfully reglued. This last time however, the switch also broke away from the housing and no longer functions. It appears to be a design or materials issue with this model since the water column indicator has been moved from the back to the side on the newer models. That said, the kettle has served us well for about 5 years but I may look to other options for my next kettle.

Wanted a kettle not a wind chime that boils water

Who thought putting a wind-chime like bell on a kettle was a good idea? The most annoying feature, mentioned nowhere on the box. A terrible idea. Lookinf for a way to dissemble the kettle now and remove the bell. Would not have bought if id known.

Great until it dies on you

I had the older model of this which worked amazingly for 11 years I went to plug it in and out of no where it wouldn’t heat up. There was nothing wrong with the plug it must’ve been the base that died. Frustrating thing with btw like is that they should have inventory of old bases to purchase but of course they didn’t and now there’s a newer model of the one I had and I had to repurchase the new kettle which I didn’t expect to do. Thought they would’ve stranded by their products more. Super disappointed hopefully this newer model will hold up and not just die on me over time.
