Great opener w/camera, but support was a challenge

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great opener with camera, though support was a challenge. My observations:
The opener itself: It's outstanding! It's probably 2/3 quieter than my old opener. The LED lights light up the whole garage area to see around you as you pull into the car and head into the house. The belt technology is so much nicer than the old bicycle chain technology of most older openers - and there's no grease everywhere - pretty clean! When I installed my old opener, I got covered in grease by the chain. It seems very heavy duty and should last a long time with no problems.
The remote controls: You have to read the very fine print (like one line in 30 pages) to discover that the new opener uses new technology (not a bad thing) that is NOT compatible with any older remotes you have around the house. Not a bad thing, but I wasted a few hours till I figured this out.
The bigger problem is that the remotes that come with this opener ONLY WORK with the newest openers, not any other older openers you may have for another door. These remotes WILL NOT work with any older openers (think purple, green, red LEARN buttons). This opener comes with two 3-button remotes, so you would think they planned for your to be able to open 2-3 garage doors with each remote - only works if all the openers are the new YELLOW learn buttons.
As you may have guessed, I have 3 doors, two with older (Green LEARN buttons) openers. The remotes that come with this opener can not work with these old openers. After losing a bunch more time figuring this out, I thought I was stuck having two remotes to open my doors. Luckily, I discovered that Chamberlain sells a different remote, model 953EV-P2, that looks identical to the two remotes that came with the new opener, EXCEPT you can program old and new remotes to any of the three buttons. Why chamberlain didn't include these remotes with the opener is mystifying. I needed two, so $52 more and I was almost set.
I also have an opener key pad on the garage to let people into the house - Yep, this old keypad doesn't work with the new opener..... sigh..... But Chamberlain sells a new keypad, 940EV-P2, that works with old and new openers. So, an additional $35 bucks and I was done.
A page in the manual (and maybe on the box) would have saved me many wasted hours and I would have been go to go about 4 days sooner.
Last item: Support - this is a new opener and the normal support people don't work with it yet - I had to call a different number. I've called the regular help desk in the past, even on my 25-year old opener and they have been wonderful to work with.
After 5 days of multiple calls, leaving a voicemail every time, no one has ever called me back.Very frustrating since my questions turned out to be pretty straightforward and a knowledgeable person could have answered my questions in short order, rather than me having to research on the web for many hours.
A couple of small things:
- The connection to Google Assistant needs some tweaks - I know it works, but I can't get it working.
- The installation instructions from BILT (very nice approach!) didn't say that when you install the belt, there are two different types of ends to the belt. YOu have you start with the right one or you lose 15 minutes while you figure it out, uninstall a couple of things and then fix it. Not a big deal, but a tweak to the install video would help.
Would I recommend this opener to a friend? Absolutely! It is an awesome upgrade from old openers! And with what I know now, I could help my friend do a complete install in under an hour!

Sleek Modern High Tech Garage Door Opener
on October 31, 2021

I just had this opener installed professionally on two garage doors one by Dixie Door & one by ASAP Door out of Memphis. This opener is by far the quietest I've ever witnessed. I wouldn't believe it would be this quiet unless witnessed it. The design of the motor is modern , sleek and showroom quality. The techs taught me how to use the MyQ app. Simple. With a few taps on my phone I can do whatever I want with my opener. Seriously this opener is the best. I'll never go with another brand.
Pros: battery backup, Packaged Well, quiet, Sturdy, Stylish, reliable, easy to install, WiFi Capable
I would recommend this to a friend!

Please enable ONVIF in the camera

The opener is just fine - quiet, smooth operation comparing to my old opener. The integrated light is an upgrade too.
But I wish I could integrate the opener's camera with my existing NVR setup. Please consider exposing the camera stream via ONVIF protocol - without it the camera is useless to me.
Pros: quiet, easy to install

Nice opener. Why remove the smart control panel??
on September 8, 2021

Just installed this opener to replace my B970 to get the new camera function. The opener functions similarly but I no longer have a timer to close option and have lost a major amount of my customization features due to chamberlain no longer including the smart control panel with its top of the line opener. Why would you remove a feature like this on your best opener but still include it on the Liftmaster line? This does not make sense and is going to cause people to become upset.
Pros: battery backup, Packaged Well, quiet, Stylish, WiFi Capable

The Perfect Door Opener
on July 5, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been purchasing Chamberlain openers for seven years, and hands-down this is the best opener I've ever see them offer.
In my honest appraisal, I cannot find a significant negative about this opener. The build quality of the motor unit, the bar and belt, the wall switch and infrared safety sensors are all superior. Nothing feels cheap and nothing about the appearance suggests corners were cut.
Installation of these units is brilliantly easy - even people who "aren't handy" can manage this in about an hour or so. If you're replacing a door opener that is less than 15 years old, chances are that it's even easier, since you don't have to deal with a new mount above the garage door for the bar. If you are replacing a very old opener, rest assured that this comes with all of the necessary updated hardware for where the bar attaches to the wall above the door. The install instructions are CLEAR and the grammar is great - you won't be sitting there scratching your head about what some poorly translated instruction means. Chamberlain has made assembly pretty much as easy and fool-proof as possible. The hardest part isn't assembling the unit itself, it's actually just hanging it from the ceiling. Technically, one person can handle this because you first attach the bar to the support above your garage door, with the motor unit resting on the ground. Then, you just pivot the motor unit up to the metal brackets hanging from the ceiling and insert your bolts. It's crazy easy, but you need to be able to climb a ladder and support 10-15 pounds as you hoist up the motor unit. It comes with the infrared safety sensors, which in old construction houses the wiring runs behind your drywall - so all you have to do is splice the new sensors onto your existing wiring from the old sensors.
Turning back to the physical build quality, the motor unit has a hard plastic case, but it's solid and should withstand a few bumps over the years when you're unloading lumber from your truck and bang into it. Chamberlain remedied one of my previous quirks about their units - the light cover. In previous openers, the white light covers were often flimsy and a pain to unlatch. The light cover on this is sturdier, and it comes unlatched with less effort. And speaking of the light - it's BRIGHT! At over 2000 lumens this thing will replace your in-garage fluorescent lights, or supplement them with a ton of extra illumination. They switched from light bulbs to built-in LED's a few years ago, and honestly this saves you $20+ over the course of the opener lifetime, as well as several dollars a year in electricity costs. If there's one small thing I would ask Chamberlain to change, it would be to include an option to keep the light on constantly. As is, it turns on if you open the door, or (optionally) if the motion sensor built into the wall switch detects motion. If you have your garage door closed and you're just working in your garage, you'll have to keep walking back to the wall switch every few minutes to turn the light back on. This should be a simple improvement for the future.
With the unit installed, I was first impressed by how quiet this is - especially for a 1 1/4 HP unit designed to handle even a heavy 2-car garage door. This replaced a chain-drive unit that made a TON of noise - so much that it was a real problem with having a baby's room on the second floor on the other side of the house. There is no heavy, jarring sound with this unit whatsoever...the best way to describe the noise is a low "whir" - it's more electronic sounding than mechanical. When we tested it, we found that you couldn't even hear it running in the kitchen right next to the garage. The only noise left is the metal garage door (which needs new rollers!) I honestly don't think you could expect a garage door opener to possibly be more quiet than this one. It's perfect.
The motor lifts my garage door at a good pace. Honestly, I've seen somewhat faster openers, but when I say faster, I mean maybe a second or two better. It's up there in the top quarter of openers in terms of door speed. Besides, there's something to be said about a door that isn't closing at a million miles an hour...it gives someone an extra couple of seconds to move something out of the way if there's an obstruction.
The wall switch is straightforward...I've seen some GAUDY wall switches with some openers these days...switches that are an eyesore especially when mounting them inside the house next to the garage entrance. This switch is less "invasive" while still giving you a "solid" feel to the open/close button, and it includes a dedicated light switch push-button as well. AND...I can't say enough good about this...THEY'VE ADDED A "PROGRAM/LEARN" BUTTON TO THE WALL SWITCH!!! It sits underneath the open/close button, and this is the best idea ever! It's always a PAIN to break out the ladder and pull the car out to get to the learn button on the motor unit. This was just a genius move by Chamberlain!
The battery backup on this unit is always an excellent feature. We don't get too many outages where I am, but it's always a comfort to know it's there when a bad storm rolls through. After letting the battery charge for a few hours we tested it by unplugging the unit. When running on backup power, the motor does run in a lower power mode, so be prepared for the door to take twice as long to open or close. I haven't tested the number of opens/closes you can get on a fully charged battery, but I'm guessing you'll get about half a dozen based on the battery size.
This does come with a pair of in-car remotes, and these appear unchanged from prior models. But they didn't need to be changed...they have three buttons for three door openers, and I've found them good for a range of about 200 feet "in real life." One thing I haven't tried is to program one of the extra buttons for the gate at the entrance to my neighborhood...I'm curious to see if the Chamberlain remote would work in this application.
And saving the best for last...the CAMERA! This is my first experience with a Chamberlain opener with a built-in camera, and I think it's wonderful. Getting it connected to the MyQ Chamberlain app was a bit of a process...at first the app had issues when connecting the motor unit to my Wi-Fi network. The app kept giving me an error message, but after restarting the app the connection process proceeded fine. The camera toggles out from the underside of the unit, and at first I thought it was some sort of motorized swivel that you could remotely control via the app. However, the camera is in fact fixed, and you have to swivel the camera manually to get the aim you want. You'll get probably 140 degrees of vision out of the camera, which is perfectly fine for a one- or two-car garage door opening. The image quality I found to be very good - enough to see everything going on and make out the person you're looking at. I haven't tried the camera in a low-light situation, but if it lives up to the MyQ cameras I've seen, it should perform fine. One request for future models...and this is being incredibly picky...would be for the camera to have an electronic swivel capability. It would be great to be able to swivel the camera via the app to check the other side of the garage - for example to check if the door leading to my kitchen was open or closed. The app has built in-features for monitoring motion, and I was very impressed with how seamlessly the MyQ app integated with the Amazon Key app for in-garage package delivery. Now, when a delivery driver opens my garage door, I can see how/if the package was delivered. I've had instances where the driver literally throws the package, and it's good to have this on record if you receive a delivery that's damaged by a careless driver.
Overall, I give this Chamberlain opener very high marks, and I will continue to recommend Chamberlain overall as an excellent company with reliable, well-constructed products. If you're in the market for an opener - this one is truly worth it!

Horrible WiFi
on November 29, 2021

The garage door opener and features themselves are great. However, they drop from WiFi randomly, and then fail every time I try to reconnect. I let the one go for a week because I was having so many issues, then it thankfully worked when I tried it randomly. A day later, the other opener dropped from the network and is now giving me repeated issues.
It was a pain to connect them in the first place, and now a pain to get them reconnected. It’s an issue with the openers…none of my other devices have this issue
Pros: battery backup, quiet, Stylish

It's okay, but not great, especially for the price

I purchased two of these to replace my very old Liftmaster openers. The install was easy and straightforward and everything works just as advertised with no issues out of the box. It's very quiet and smooth.
What I don't like about this opener is the downgraded opener wall controls. No LED Display? Speaking of LED's, they have a yellow hue and not a bright white like a great opener should have. The biggest disappointment is the range of the opener to receive signal from either the included remotes or from my truck. WHY is there no way to add an external or extended antenna on this?
I'm sure customer support will respond with a canned response and provide a number to which I can reach out. Save the time and just show me where I can add an external antenna so I can open these from a few hundred feet away.
Pros: battery backup, quiet, easy to install, WiFi Capable
