great when it works-but beware of motor oil smell

I bought this blender in 12/21 for use in my second home. After about a year, this gooey smelly oily stuff appeared at the bottom of the blender jar. I cleaned it and it kept happening, so I contacted customer service and they sent me a new one. Unfortunately after a little over a year (mind you we are only in this house 4-6 months a year and I only use this to make a single shake 4-5 times a week) the same thing happened again. I know it's out of warrantee now so I will get a second Vitamix (my first one is 10 years old going strong and is used much more frequently). It's too bad because this is an attractive and powerful blender when it works. I set it to shake, don't touch it and it blended well. I see I'm not the only one with this problem.

Worst blender ever…

I never write reviews on anything but would warn anyone about buying this blender. I received blender as Christmas gift, worked for a couple weeks then the rubber bottom was stripped by the metal propeller. I also had black goo leaking out as well. This is so poorly designed, I can’t believe the blender does not some how lock into place, especially with a blender this heavy duty… customer service was great. They sent a new one however, the same thing happened again with the new blender… at this we are throwing in our cards and just buying a different brand of blender. Very disappointed in kitchen aide
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Sturdy and Great Design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m excited about my new piece of kitchen equipment! I had been using my emersion blender in the past but it’s too much stress for certain uses. This blender has excellent power and is well designed. At the base are two cut outs that help you grip and move the blender. Since it’s so heavy these handles are extremely helpful. It cuts right through ice; no problem. I’ve only used it a couple times so far but I love it. The cleaning feature is really easy too. Instead of running in through the dishwasher or washing it by hand, simply put a couple drops of dishwashing liquid and some warm water in the blender, run it, and it’s clean. Rinse out the soapy water and dry it and it’s ready to be put away. I also have a Kitchenaid mixer that matches my new blender and both sit out on the counter. Love them!

Horrible smell after several months of use

I was very happy with this KitchenAid K-400 blender for the first several months. I use it to make fruit smoothies every day. But now, the smell that comes from the bottom of the blender where the blade assembly is located is horrible - I have used bleach, hydrogen peroxide, even letting baking soda sit on it for a day. The smell continues to come back. Right now, the smell resembles rotten fish - and there are no fish my house!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
