So far love this microwave.. pleasing to the eye functional and works as advertised.. Couple of things to note, set the clock before trying to follow the instructions to defeat child lock feature and the other is to remember to press cook time button if your want to reheat something for a period of time.
We repurposed our 20-year-old Sharp microwave is 1.2 cu ft and 1200 Watts, thus needed a new microwave oven, but Sharp no longer makes a microwave with those specs. We didn’t want to go larger in exterior size and the dimensions of this model are almost identical to our more interior spacious and powerful older model. At 1.1 cu ft and 1000 Watts this was the closest match we could find and so far, it seems to perform close in power to our 1200-watt model. While the Sharp brand doesn’t appear prominently in generic internet searches for microwave ovens, we sought the Sharp brand out because of the performance of our previous Sharp.
This model is much quieter than our old model and while our old model had more features, this one has all we need plus most functions are similar enough where the learning curve is minor. While we would have preferred a white interior we will probably like this dark one as well once we’re used to it. The touch sensitivity on the control panel is light and easy - about the same as our old model. As others have reported, the display light is probably twice as bright as it needs to be, but not a deal breaker for us, and the child lock is easily disabled.
We do have a few minor gripes:
1. I’m 6’ tall and standing 2 feet or less away from this microwave which sits on a standard countertop height. The digital display is recessed far enough far enough behind the black frame cutout that it becomes unreadable. The black frame blocks the top edge of the digits so I cannot distinguish a number 7 from a number 1, for example. I need to either back up beyond arm’s length or bend over to see the entire display correctly.
2. We haven’t tried all the settings yet, but POPCORN immediately threw us a curve ball. Whereby our old model simply had one auto setting for POPCORN, this one has three fixed settings based on ounces per bag: 1.75, 3.0, and 3.5. So of course, the first bag of popcorn we tried was 2.4 oz. (there’s no setting for that), so we used the 3.0 oz. setting, and the bag popped more thoroughly (fewer old maids) than our old model without burning, so we’ll see what happens.
3. The carousel on our old model conveniently made one rotation every 10 seconds making the warming of a cup of coffee simple, as the cup handle returned exactly to the position it started in making removal so easy. I haven’t figured out the rotation timing of this model yet, but it’s different enough so that the 10 second rotation no longer applies, and the reheated coffee cup usually ends up at the rear of the carousel with the handle facing away.
We have only had this microwave a few weeks, so we’ll attempt to publish further likes/dislikes as they appear. If this model lasts as long as our old one, which continues running, we’ll be happy campers.
The appliance works very well and the keypad is easy to use. But there are two problems with the product. 1) It is very light weight making it slide around the counter and tip forward easily especially when you open the door. 2) The interior is dark gray making it too dark to see inside when in use and also difficult to see any food splatters.
My microwave suddenly 'died' and I panicked. I quickly listed the things I liked about the deceased microwave: white; size; sound off option; power; quick 1 min button; additional time increment buttons; no handle, but rather a push button open. And my search began. Time was of the essence... morning coffee, morning oatmeal, frozen dinners. This microwave was almost perfect, and it was delivered within 2 days of the deceased demise. Anytime you get something new it is a change you feel you can't get thru. ALL the things I wanted were there. I love my new microwave. It is quieter (probably the deceased was noisy because it was on its way out!). There is only one thing I would change... the interior color. It is grey. It should be white. The lighting is low (could be because of interior is grey). So far me and my new microwave are living the 'happy life'. I would highly recommend purchasing this unit. And for those who need it... it has a child lock (which can be disabled). Enjoy!
