Nice warm stainless color, but poor control panel

There are several nice features to this microwave. I like that it's a microwave/convection oven combo as was my last microwave. The oven cavity is small enough to preheat more quickly than my range oven, and since my kids are grown I find it's large enough for most of my oven needs. I like the microwave sensor features that my previous oven had, but the biggest difference that I don't like is the control panel and the method of entering cook time and power level. My previous microwave, and I believe most higher end microwaves, have a number panel on which to enter precise cook times and power levels. This microwave however has a turn dial, which only has increments of 15 seconds. It also took me a while to figure out how to enter a power level, which I was only able to do by going online for instructions. The hard copy manual that came with the product had nothing what so ever about selecting a power level. When pushing power level on the panel the screen would indicate that it was not possible to enter a power level. What?! It turns out one must select a time first, then push the dial ONCE, only THEN one can select a power level, then push the dial again. Such a convoluted process that is impossible to figure out without the aid of specific instructions, which again, are not included with the product. Also the panel is starting to bubble where the most used features are selected, like start, cancel, and cook time, and I've only used it for less than 2 months. My favorite feature apart from the inclusion of the convection oven, is the warm stainless color, as opposed to the bright silver stainless. It fits nicely in my kitchen. But overall, if I had to do it again, I would select a different product.

Beautiful and easy to use

I had the same model in 2015. I loved it so much that I just purchased the updated model. I love the new air fryer feature . So far I love it just as much as I did my previous one.

Installation Issue

Although I am satisfied with the appliance, I do have several points against it. First of all, my original product didn’t even last 4 years however, since I had my cabinets modified specifically to fit it, I chose to replace it with the exact same model. The second issue is that for the installation, the complete mounting system is as changed. It required the existing wall mounting brackets to be removed and a different one be installed, the top mounting mounting screws were aligned differently which called for more holes to be drilled in the cabinet shelf and the mounting bolts themselves were changed (both thread and length) and the bolts provided were shorter than the previous bolts so the new ones would not even fit and I had to find ones that would. I spent my entire career working for a large aerospace and defense company and saw the same thing happen over and over with new engineers designing things with no common sense about logistics (I.e. installation issues created by changing things that don’t need to be changed). I like the product line and have other GE products but this change created a totally unnecessary issue.

An Awesome Addition to the Kitchen!

I have purchased 3 of the GE Profile PVM9179SRSS over-the-range(OTR) combination microwave and convection ovens. I own a number of leased properties, and these appliances are full of features, well built, easy to use, and include a very nice convection oven in addition to the microwave features. It's a marvelous combo to have in the kitchen! The convection oven allows one to use it just like a regular convection oven and this proves to be a worthwhile capability in the kitchen. It allows you to bake or roast with ease plus you have a feature filled microwave as well. During holiday time when oven space is at a premium, the convection oven permits you to have a 2nd oven, or a 3rd oven if you happen to have double ovens in your kitchen. Also, during times where you want to bake cookies or cakes, etc., and don't wish to use the larger oven, this OTR appliances makes it happen and with ease. The PVM9179SRSS has proven to be well built as well, looks great in the kitchen and it's easy to clean too. In addition, it is loaded with all kinds of useful features. For this reason, I am replacing any standard OTR microwave ovens with this awesome GE Profile PVM9179SRSS in my leased properties. I only choose top quality appliances for my leased homes because durability, features and reliability are paramount to my residents as well as to me. This appliance is a true winner and I highly recommend it to anyone. It may cost a bit more, but the convection oven and ruggedness for daily use makes it very cost effective for the long haul. Thank you GE! Please keep making this type of over-the-range combination convection oven with a microwave oven. It's a fantastic design.

Entering cook time is a challenge

Ao many features, but nothing noteworthy. I feel that entering cooking time should be easier. Don’t waste money on this one! Buy something with fewer features that is easier to use.

Power of this microwave is lower than our 16 year old GE Profile. Food reheat takes longer. It's OK. Would not purchase another GE Profile appliance again. Disappointed.

Great feature!

Very nice looking. I’m enjoying the features. I wish it had a way to dim the lights because the time is quite bright, but I’m getting used to it. I would have enjoyed a nice manual with some sample recipes for using the air fryer. I will just find some online. But overall I really like it.
