Great option for familes on a budget

Works well but needs some improvements in design and materials

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this unit a couple of months ago. It cools appropriate for it's size and is reasonably quiet.
The kit for fitting it to the window needs improvement and I am not referring to the woodwork I did to raise the unit to keep it from touching on a storm window frame. The pleated plastic was rather thin at the folds and tore easily (Customer service sent a replacement under warranty). You can tell from the outside light showing through that there is not an air tight seal where the pleated plastic runs in the plastic channels. Further, there is no insulation here. I have a Frigidaire window AC that is about 3 years older and somewhat larger that has flexible plastic foam panels that can be fitted over the plastic pleats so it makes a sealed and insulated installation. This AC should have that too.
Inside this newer unit and the older one, the material that separates the hot side of the AC (outside) and the cold side (inside) appears to be formed from Styrofoam. It doesn't give me any confidence that it will last for years. It really needs to be something more durable and slick textured on the surface that can be gotten to for a good cleaning.with vacuum cleaner, sponge, soap, and water. Window AC's should be such that they can be removed and taken outside for a good wash out with a garden hose.
On my older unit (and I am sure that this one will be the same) fine particles that get past the fly screen style filter build deposits on the internal Styrofoam that later flake off and blow out one to four feet into the room to settle on whatever. There is no way I can see to readily remove this material before it blows out when the AC is in use.
If Frigidaire designers want to discuss these problems further with me they are welcome.

Unit broke in 3 weeks.

It cools the room

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Here in the land of paradise (South Florida) where the a/c runs 24/7 this unit saved the day and well, night. The central a/c took a turn for the worst and we decided on window units instead of spending the $$$ to replace. It's a bit loud but once you get use to it, you don't hear it or rather you just sleep through it. We've only had for a month now and so far no complaints. We did have to clean the filter for the unit that's on the south side of our home which was a breeze. We elected to vacuum it with our hand held Shark. It took all of 2min if that. The remote is wonderful to have. I gave only 4 stars because we've not had the units long enough in my opinion but we're pleased so far. Also, we don't run the units all day and night but there have been a few days where they were on more than 12hrs. So far so good!
