The hardware and software are great. Easy to use and quick to set up. Home Tee Hero, while fun, could use more game modes, customization, and QOL improvements that I hope come in future updates.
I have really enjoyed the Garmin R50! It is easy to set up and turn on when in use. The fact that you can just walk to it and be up and hitting balls in less than a minute is a huge value add for busy folks. The readings on it are very accurate and the putting is great and fun but took some getting used to. It is also very versatile - i have used it with just a net and also full projector set up.
I was in the market for an affordable 'at home' golf sim about a year ago, but then I let the search fade off as most of the options felt a little flat in my price range. Then about a month ago, I got a review from the 'Breaking80' channel on YouTube, for the new Garmin R50. I barely let that review video finish before I had already decided this was my jump-on point! I've now logged a couple weeks of practice sessions and I'm continuously impressed by the start-up time and reliability of data that the R50 gives me. I believe this to be a valuable tool for dissecting, addressing and optimizing key swing points for better efficiency. The portability aspect of this sim was another great feature I didn't know I wanted/needed.
I've used the R50 extensively, playing many rounds with Home Tee Hero and using an external computer with GSPro. The accuracy of the system looks great and GSPro plays virtually identically to my local courses. The main area for improvement is with the included Home Tee Hero. The putting speed setting seems to be ignored and all putts are treated as though you're playing on very slow greens. If they improved this, it would be practically perfect.
Really happy so far with the R50. The set up and and response time after hitting a ball is super good and fast! I would love to see you guys add total yardage to each tee during game play set up .
