I use my other keurig brewer and I love it. Will hold on to this one and see what the future brings. If the new pods make a 16 oz cup, that will be great and if the temperature can be controlled great. Am I going to have to pay more for the k-cups that make the 16 oz cup?
Pros: Want Temp Control, Want 6 Cups, Like That It Makes 4 Cups
Cons: Only Uses Keurig Cups, No Temp Control, Does Not Make 16 Oz Cup, Only Uses Some K-cups, Only Makes Up To 10 Oz

My wife purchased this today as a gift for me. Unfortunately, we didn't bother to read reviews before the purchase. Limited to brand specific cups - unacceptable. No way to use my own ground coffee - unacceptable. Will return in the morning and exchange for a brand with more flexibility.

Fix for incompatible K-CUPS
on September 7, 2014

I TOO JUST PURCHASED A NEW KEURIG 2.0 K550 BREWING SYSTEM. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE NEW BREWER WAS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MOST OF MY OLDER K-CUPS, EVEN THOUGH THE KEURIG WEBSITE SAID THAT IT WAS COMPATIBLE WITH "K-CUPS ONLY". AFTER CALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT KEURIG WOULD ONLY REPLACE A FEW OF MY INCOMPATIBLE BOXES. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE COMPATIBLE K-CUPS HAD A WHITE RING ON TOP SO THE NEW BREWER COULD READ IT. SO, I THOUGHT, WHY NOT CUT THE WHITE RING OFF THE TOP OF A USED NEW K-CUP AND SCOTCH TAPE TO AN OLDER K-CUP. VOILA, IT WORKED. IVE USED IT REPEATEDLY ON OLDER K-CUPS AND THE NEW BREWER CONTINUES TO READ IT. I WILL KEEP DOING THIS UNTIL ALL THE OLD K-CUPS ARE GONE, AS I HAVE NO INTENTION OF BUYING NEW ONES UNTIL I HAVE TO. WHILE IT IS CERTAINLY A SMALL INCONVENIENCE, IT IS A DEFINITE WORK AROUND.

Keurig 2.0
on September 12, 2014

I've just received my Keurig 2.0 and I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it works. While I am an absolute fan of the simplicity of the pods, I'm discouraged by not being able to use refillable/reusable ones. I'd love to reuse several cups versus recycle possible thousands. I understand the marketing and business viewpoint of the company but forcing people to use only pre-filled, keurig branded, k-cups is quite alienating. I love the coffee alternatives currently provided by keurig, such as lemonade, hot cider, and a wide array of teas. However, I am rather specific when it comes to my coffee, espresso, or cappuccino. While Keurig does offer a wide range of coffee choices there are some that will just never exist in a k-cup. I find it disappointing I can't even use the official keurig refillable k-cup for those special coffees, espressos, etc. I would love to see Keurig offer bulk packages of the varieties currently available as I would continue to purchase their flavors with the added benefit of reusable k-cups. I have used the machine for several days now and I do love the ease and quickness of making a cup of coffee or apple cider. You need to 'clean' the machine before & after making anything but tea or coffee. It's an easy process: run a hot water brew cycle before and after making the cider, cocoa, lemonade, etc. I do not recommend filling water reservoir to max fill line as it had a bit of trouble producing hot water once filled completely. The main issue I have encountered in this otherwise great product is the unusable k-cups. As I was quite thrilled with my Keurig, I wanted to try the cider and hot chocolate. I purchased official Keurig brand k-cups after receiving my machine. I made the cider without a problem and it was delicious! However, when I put the Swiss Miss k-cup in (after the machine punctures a hole in the top & bottom of k-cup) I received an error message stating that my k-cup was not compatible and directed me to an 'oops' portion of their site. After viewing the page I learned which k-cups work & which don't. Oh, the only difference on the outside of the box is a small black label stating "for use in all Keurig k-cup brewers" wouldn't you expect ALL Keurig brand k-cups to work in Keurig k-cup brewers? The way to tell old pods vs new pods is the ring on the outside of the cup. I have emailed Keurig's customer service and while it states I would receive a response within 48 hours, I have not. Overall I am content with this machine and it's functionality, however, the lack of backwards compatibility can't allow more than 3 stars. I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing & review purposes.
Pros: Pleasing Roast, Smooth Taste, Hot Water Dispenser, Pleasing Aroma

Good, but not great

I received the keurig 2.0 complimentary from Influenster for review purposes. I have had 2 keurigs in the past, and loved both. While this brewer is more high tech and has a better outward appearance, I do not like it more than my previous brewers. I drink coffee quite often, but I am very picky over the kcups that I enjoy. I was very taken back when I could not use the kcups that I have purchased in the past. Also, the stores in my area do not carry the correct k cups, so I have been unable to actually enjoy a coffee in a few days. It's great you can brew a carafe of coffee, but for everyday, it's a bit much. Also, stores in my area do not carry the carafe kcups either. In the afternoon, I use my keurig to make tea or just have hot water with honey and lemon, and with the 2.0, I can only brew 6 ounces of hot water (and I have to hold the brew button to get the full 6 oz) which does not give me a full mug. I understand the need to replace kcups with the ones with the brand on it, but from a consumers point of view, it's just a hassle and an added expense in the long run.
Pros: Attractive Mouthfeel/Body
Cons: Can Only Brew 6oz Of Wate, Only Certain Kcups

There's an easy work around if you absolutely have to use old k-cups, unlicensed ones or like to use your own coffee. Check it out on the internet. You can brew your coffee stronger and can brew a carafe when needed. I received this product for free from Influenster.com
Pros: Brews Quietly, Modern Day Style, Balanced Acidity, Brews quickly, Attractive Mouthfeel/Body, Pleasing Aroma
Cons: New K-brand Cups Only, Only The New K-brand Cups

I love this machine!!

This is a great machine!! I have had some form of a Keurig for many, many years (platinum k-cup, vue) and I love the fact that this machine brews a carafe. My platinum died after 6-7 years and I gave my one year old vue to my sister. I don't use "my k-cup" as I always thought it was too messy so that is not a problem for me in using the 2.0. I had just purchased a supply of vue cups just before I got the 2.0, gave some to my sister and read on-line how to fool the machine if the vue pods didn't have the green circle. It works like a charm and very easy to do. I will do this until my old vue pods are used up. Now to the cons: I always brewed my vue on 12 oz; the 2.0 can't do that but my work-around is one pod, brew strong for 6 ounces twice. This works fine. My only other con is with the temperature. I liked the fact that I could change the temperature of my coffee with the vue and I can't do that with the 2.0. I am finding that my coffee cools quicker. My solution....drink faster :)
Pros: Durable, Easy to use, Stylish, Fast, Multiple Settings
Cons: Temperature, Limited Cup Sizes

Underwhelmed

The main thing that sets the Keurig 2.0 apart from its predecessors is the DRM technology incorporated into the machine. To put it simply, the machine reads the lids of K-Cups for Keurig's official logo. Using a K-Cup without the Keurig logo in the Keurig 2.0 brewer will result in an error message. In other words, no Keurig logo, no dice! That's really disappointing for people who want to be more economical and use the Keurig machine with their own bagged coffees. One advantage the Keurig 2.0 has over previous Keurig models is the ability to brew a pot of coffee. The 2.0 comes with an insertable drip tray for single cup brewing as well as a carafe for multi-cup brewing. When you purchase the entire system, you get a variety of K-Cup packs (single cup) and the new, larger K-Carafe packs that brew up to 4 cups of coffee at a time. Brewing the coffee is a relatively quick and quiet process. If the machine's been turned off for awhile, it takes about 3 minutes to preheat and an additional 3 minutes to brew a carafe, and less that if you're making a single serving beverage. For me, one disappointing aspect (besides the DRM) is the lack of temperature control. The default factory setting produces a lukewarm cup of coffee. To increase the temperature slightly, go into the settings and enable High Altitude. Unfortunately, I noticed that while changing the setting to High Altitude brewed a warmer, but still not steaming, single cup of coffee, it didn't affect the temperature when brewing a K-Carafe. The temperature using the multi-cup option resulted in a lukewarm pot of coffee no matter what I did. The carafe that comes with the machine is made of plastic so it doesn't insulate the coffee during the brewing process. By the time I'm ready to pour a cup from the carafe, the coffee's already cooled off. Something else that's bothersome is although the Keurig's water reservoir comes with a water filter it doesn't do an adequate job of removing off flavors. This may have to do more with my town's water supply than anything else but water straight from the tap tends to taste heavily chlorinated where I live. When I fill the Keurig 2.0's water reservoir with water directly from the tap, I can definitely taste the chlorine especially if I'm dispensing hot water to drink on its own or making a cup of tea. It's not noticeable when I'm using a coffee K-Cup because the coffee masks the chlorine flavor but whether you plan on using the Keurig for hot water, coffee, tea, or other beverages I recommend using filtered water to fill the reservoir rather than water directly from the tap. Don't rely on the Keurig water filter. Personally, my favorite thing about the K550 is the hot water dispenser. As a tea drinker, I think it's very useful. But I wish I didn't have to stand there the whole time and hold down the button while the hot water's being dispensed. All in all, the Keurig 2.0 makes a good (not great) cup of coffee but, in my opinion, not enough to warrant the hefty price tag given the machine's limitations. I received the Keurig 2.0 K550 for free to test and review from Influenster.
