It’s EVERYTHING!

After years with a coffee maker that we swore was making our expensive coffee taste like crap, we took the plunge and got an Aiden. It’s insane how much of a difference a coffee machine can make in the taste of the same exact coffee. What was once bitter and acidic, was smooth and absolutely delicious. Also love that the carafe is made of stainless steel instead of glass. Makes clean up a breeze. We’ve owned a kettle by Fellow for about five years, and know that the quality is good - expecting the same kind of longevity from our Aiden coffee maker. Would be super cool if they added additional colors too!

New Aiden Coffee Machine
on September 18, 2024

I received my Aiden Coffee Maker September 10, and have used it everyday since. For the most part I love the machine. I think the design overall is very appealing and the carafe keeps the coffee hot for a very long time. Love not having it on a burner. A couple of things just my opinion is the basket is hard to place a wet filter in which is part of making a good coffee and I wish the lettering on the water dispenser was darker and a little larger. So far though I really enjoy my coffee and love my new machine. Rating should actually be a 4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Cool and fun new product!

As usual with Fellow products, the Aiden is a well-thought-through device that looks cool on your countertop. They have considered every facet of coffee brewing and come up with a nice solution for it. The coffee profiles are cool - I was one of the early orders and received 3 free bags of coffee and the Aiden automatically loaded the coffee profiles. It brews a good cup or pot of coffee. This latter point is really nice - if you want to brew a pot for 2-3 people, it saves you the time of making a separate pour over for everyone.
Some things to know about the Aiden - not negatives but just topics for consideration. I got the Aiden thinking it would be a nice way to save time brewing coffee, particularly for those mornings where I am rushing to get on a call. I would say it might save some time, but only marginally so. You still need to measure and grind your beans, pre-wet your filter, pour fresh water and sift your ground coffee (if you do that). So, the only thing it automates is the actual pouring of the water. But it does that well and the profiles and overall configurability are cool.
The one feature I wish it did have is the ability to specify the amount of ground coffee and use that to back your way into the amount of water you need. If you use the Shimmy to sift your coffee, you might start off with 40g of coffee and end up with 35.8g of ground coffee. But there isn't a way to tell the Aiden "I have 35.8g of coffee. Now brew the right amount based on this."
The app setup worked fine for me. I have seen some complaints about this but I didn't have any issues. Overall a cool and fun new product and I can imagine them adding more features to it as time goes on.

Great Features, Poor at keeping the coffee warm
on October 6, 2024

In the past I have purchased all new Fellow products and they have been great. This new coffee maker is a great concept. I was so looking forward to getting mine. It works as described, except the thermal craft doesn’t keep the coffee ☕️ up to par. The carafe degrades quickly, if this could be improved, this would be a must have. Unfortunately, it’s just ok - a “3” in by book, I have replaced it elwith a “Mr. Coffee”

Great coffeemaker, but wish the carafe kept coffee hotter for longer

I love everything about the functioning of this coffee maker. It's so great to be able to micro-manage my coffee-making. The only reason I wouldn't rate this a 5 is because the carafe doesn't keep the coffee hot for hours as promised. I have to leave for work early in the morning and make a pot a couple hours before my wife gets up. By the time she gets up, the coffee is luke warm-ish. Otherwise love the coffeemaker.

Doesn’t hold the heat

I bought this coffeemaker to get better quality drip coffee. The flavor is amazing however the carafe doesn’t hold the temperature long enough. I would’ve preferred a carafe that holds the temperature. I have to transfer the coffee to a thermal carafe if I want hot coffee.

Mechanically, this is an exceptionally engineered product. The software engineering is, unfortunately, another story (for now).

The end result--the coffee in my cup--is consistently excellent whether batch or small brew. Easy to clean. Whatever issues some may claim about the plastic is not evident in the cup. Everything smells and tastes great to a coffee nerd who has brewed on 20+ devices for the last 5 years. I own a Ratio 6 (which is a great straightforward batch brewer), and I find Aiden's versatility and cup profile superior.
The direct interface is...fine. I'm ambivalent about the design, though I experience latency on the dial about 25% of the time, requiring me to turn the dial again. It isn't a major issue, but it's disappointing to see such an interface flaw from a new product.
My biggest criticism is that a digital-forward product for which Fellow promoted ease of customization shipped with a non-functional app (including "app updates" that erased the preorder Guided Brew configurations from my Aiden interface). Had Fellow not garnered such good will from numerous excellent products in the past, such miscommunication and miscalculation would sour my outlook of the business. If partial functionality was long seen as an issue, either marketing should've been much clearer much earlier about the caveat, or the product should've shipped at a later date. It's a serious mistake to learn from for a 2024 product marketed as a game-changer. Judging the product alone--good app functionality would bump my rating to a 5 (even with the dial issue), and the prolonged continuance of a nonfunctional app or a half-baked app would detract to a 3.

Makes a good cup… when it works
on October 21, 2024

So it does make a good cup of coffee and it looks nice. The problem is that it took a while for us to find a setting that worked and even then we end up ignoring what the UI is saying because it is messed up. We basically just need to do the guided brew and ignore the instructions to get it to actually brew. Every morning we get the error message that it needs more water even though it ran through the maximum and (when we first started) it overflowed with almost boiling water a few times. The carafe also has a horrible pour spout that is guaranteed to spill coffee when the carafe is full. I hope that the much awaited/delayed software update fixes the brew issues (and adds the missing features from the marketing campaign)… but again, good cup of coffee
