Disappointing

I bought this in December. The water sensor has started to malfunction: says it needs water when it does not and uses more than the programmed amount of water on other occasions. Sometimes it works properly. When I went to file a warranty claim on the website it asked me to upload images of the problem. Really? I am suppose to hang out by my coffee maker to film it not working? The glitch is an unpredictable one. I am not going to run water through the coffee maker in hopes of catching it in the act.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

1. Makes a mediocre coffee. 2. No warming plate. 3. Carafe does not keep coffee hot whatsoever.

It's a keeper, but there are some missed opportunities

This is tough, because I'm overall pleased and I do actually like this generally more than the Breville Precision Brewer which is what I felt was probably the best coffee maker for light roast extraction up until now. (Although I haven't tried the XBloom and hear good things). I do think the Aiden extracts better than the Breville, which ultimately is the most important thing and that's why I'm keeping it and generally satisfied. However, I think there are some gaps that Fellow left which were unfortunate and unnecessary oversights at this price point. So I'll leave these here in case the product team is reading! 1) Carafe - I love how open it is when I take the lid off. It's BY FAR the easiest carafe I've ever cleaned. BUTTTTT it doesn't keep the coffee warm almost at all. Probably doubling the thickness of the double-wall insulation would go quite a long way. 2) The body generally comes across as very "plasticy" - the finish is nice, but I think maybe just sort of the weight of the various lids that you lift feel super lightweight/thin/cheap 3) The DIAL! The dial is awful. It wavers between nonresponsive and intermittently responsive. Turn, wait, seems like it didn't read, turn again and oh wait! It did actually register, so now we've gone past what we were trying to get to. ROUGH. I don't know if it's the dial or the RAM of the electronics or what the deal is... but it genuinely sucks. 4) PLEASE allow me to use Grams and mL and Fahrenheit! Can you maybe just do that in a firmware upgrade? I can't be the only person that uses F but Grams and mL in the coffee world....... why force me to try and convert to Celsius or be forced into Oz but still Grams of Coffee? I dunno... just doesn't really seem to make sense to me. 5) Could you release a rough guide of grind size based on your own Fellow grinders based on the number of cups I'm brewing? Like I have an Ode Gen 2 - I know the general guidance given was ~5 for single serve but ~8 for batch. But I actually usually brew about 4-4.5 cups which is TECHNICALLY batch, but if you push it to 8 it's way underextracted. So it seems like really it's probably more of a continuum where if you're just barely pushing into "batch" mode (e.g. 4 cups) then you should be closer to a 6 than an 8. Could be a downloadable recommendation guide based on # of cups by grinder model, or you could get super fancy and add that as a step in the guided brew. 6) The cord isn't long enough! If you have a real significant coffee bar set up, you're going to use more than two outlets, which means you're inevitably talking about using a surge protector, which means cord needs to go from counter to FLOOR not counter to average receptacle height on the wall. (And yes, I know that basically no coffee maker ever manufactured in the history of the world has ever had a long enough cord, but Fellow is better than everyone else on most of their products, so come on...) 7) App does nothing. I assume that will change someday. But kind of sucks to launch with literally zero functionality on the app but all the QR codes and everything is like "go to the app, that's how you do everything!" and then you get to the app and the app is like "come back at some later completely unknown date in the future because right now we do nothing" 8) This is probably a full redesign concept... and maybe not even really something that even standard filters support, so you probably can't actually do this. But I'll be real honest... 4-5 cups feels like the optimal brew amount. 2-3 cups per person for 2 adults in a household? That's got to be a relatively common amount of coffee to brew. So why does that amount always seem to sit right in no-man's land with any coffee maker? Single serve is up to 3 cups or whatever, so technically 4 cups is Batch. But then you have an almost empty filter (very hard to extract properly) AND with this Aiden I've now dramatically expanded my active showerhead diameter, which feels like making the already difficult extraction due to the mostly empty filter even more difficult. I don't know. I honestly think v60 filters might be the only ones that can genuinely take that ~35ish grams of coffee and sort of optimally treat it. Kalita's would be too small, Melitta 4's probably too big along with the 8-12 baskets that Aiden uses. Again - Aiden does the best extraction I've had so far. But this whole 4-5 cup thing sitting in a middle ground between big and small seems to be a maybe unnecessary structural challenge to overcome?
I'll keep it. I'm happy. I honestly just expected a little more probably based on price point and my already exceedingly high expectations of Fellow.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello Cabell,
I appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your experience with Aiden Brewer! It’s wonderful to know that you are enjoying the quality of the coffee. Regarding the carafe, I will certainly relay your feedback to our product team, as they value insights on how we can enhance our offerings.
Concerning full app control and shareable brew profiles, these functionalities are set to be released in the upcoming months. While I cannot provide a specific timeline at this moment, please rest assured that we are diligently working to make them available as soon as we can. In the meantime, the Fellow app will ensure that your Aiden receives all the latest firmware updates effortlessly. Additionally, you can still utilize all of Aiden’s features through the dial button and onboard screen!
For assistance with grind guidance, we have resources available! You can refer to our Help Center article and guide video on How to Dial in Your Grinder here: https://help.fellowproducts.com/hc/en-us/articles/29101533994267-How-should-I-dial-in-my-grinder-when-brewing-with-Aiden

Disappointed

I recently bought this and have had technical troubles from the beginning. Which sucks because it was expensive and makes good coffee, there just always seems to be a new technical issue. Here are the issues I’ve experienced:
1. I guess the app isn’t setup yet to control the coffee maker like advertised. Apparently this is a “coming soon” feature. I wish I would have known this beforehand. 2. Since the app doesn’t work, I manually schedule my coffee for the next morning. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It randomly doesn’t start on its scheduled time because it’s “low water levels” even though the water tank is full. I have to come clear the error message before it will make my coffee. Not a great way to start the day. 3. The most recent issue is it won’t schedule at all because it has another error “close the lid”. All lids are closed, water tank is full, everything is secure, I don’t understand the issue.
I’ve been really disappointed. It will be interesting to see if Fellow stands behind their product and takes care of me.

Very Good Coffee Maker... but not Outstanding
on February 12, 2025
Posted by: Greg
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife. This replaced a Cuisinart coffee maker my wife's had for years.
The GOOD: It is a great looking coffee maker. Looks spectacular on our counter. TONS of customization features. When brewing, no steam escapes to dampen our cabinets.
The "Not so Good": It's 10-cup capacity isn't as big as the Cuisinart's 12-cup, and I hear about it every morning... that she can't have one cup of coffee and STILL fill up her Thermos for work. Also, the carafe isn't as insulated as the Cuisinart's carafe is, so, the coffee eventually gets cold after a few hours. Finally, the handle on the filter basket broke for which I put in a warranty claim. I was a little disappointed by that considering how much we paid for the Aiden.
Those things aside, I'd still recommend the Aiden if you want FULL control of your coffee brew. I find I still use my Bialetti, Pour-Over or French Press more than the Aiden.

Elevated coffee maker marred by bad software and unreliable hardware
on September 18, 2024
Posted by: Chris Messina
As an avid coffee enthusiast, I was thrilled by the Aiden's promise of bringing barista-level pour-over techniques to my daily ritual. The idea of custom brew profiles crafted by expert baristas to unlock the full potential of single-origin beans was incredibly appealing.
Unfortunately, my experience with the Aiden has been far from satisfactory:
## Cons: - Persistent hardware issues - Subpar companion app - Frustrating firmware upgrade process - Lack of clear communication about feature availability
### Hardware Problems Both my initial device and its replacement suffered from a recurring error, falsely claiming the water tank was empty when it was full. This suggests a systemic issue with sensors or tubing.
### Software Shortcomings The Fellow Aiden app falls short of expectations. Key issues include: - Inability to manually initiate firmware upgrades - Lack of transparency in the upgrade process - Unclear communication about the availability of custom brew guides
### Overall Experience My first week with the Aiden has been disappointing. While I believe these issues may be resolved over time, the current state of the product doesn't justify its premium price point.
### Recommendation At present, I cannot recommend the Aiden. Coffee enthusiasts would be better served by either perfecting their manual pour-over technique or opting for a more cost-effective and reliable automated brewer.
In conclusion, the Aiden shows promise but requires significant improvements in both hardware reliability and software functionality before it can deliver on its ambitious goals.

Beautiful, but….
on December 16, 2024

This machine made excellent coffee, until it didn’t. The ´add water’, light kept popping on, even though there was already water in the container. I tried to get in contact with Fellow to troubleshoot, but the form I was expected to complete, (just to have them contact me), was ridiculous; FRW number?! Way too much trouble, so I just returned it. Too bad because I REALLY wanted to like this machine, it’s beautiful.
