Amazing OLED Greatness

Amazing Size, Older Panel Tech

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The 97-inch LG G5 is an incredible TV in sheer size and picture presence, but it’s important to know what you’re actually getting. Unlike the smaller G5 models, the 97-inch version does not use LG’s new four-stack/tandem OLED panel. Just like past years, the 97-inch models also skip MLA.
From what I understand, it comes down to the way OLED panels are cut from a mother glass sheet. A 97-inch panel uses almost the entire sheet by itself, so LG can’t divide it into multiple panels like they do with smaller sizes. Since this size is already extremely expensive, adding the newest and most expensive panel tech might push the price even higher than it already is.
So while the TV still delivers excellent OLED picture quality, you should know you’re not getting the latest generation panel advancements. If you’re buying specifically for the cutting-edge tech, this is something to keep in mind. If you’re buying for size and immersion, it’s unmatched.
