Roku streaming stick

A bit puzzled that the stick alone doesn't work, I found that the USB2 cord had to be plugged into the streaming stick, which must be plugged into the HDMI port.
No mention of this is found on the instructions,,,

Find it connection very easy and there are many ways to upload more apps.
I would recommend for all streaming apps.
