THIS. IS. LOUD. Buyer Beware.

Future buyers, please STOP and READ this review. Pay careful attention to reviewers who are saying this unit is loud, because it is. I live in an older home and am to some degree used to noisy devices (we have a window unit A/C), but we got this fridge to replace an old but serviceable one (the door wasn't closing properly), and I kind of prefer the old one. Yes, it sleek and looks nice on the outside, but the sound would have been a non-negotiable for me had I heard the unit functioning on the floor.
I called Whirlpool about it and of course was told this is the normal operating sound. If you want to know what that sound is, it's like a quiet (used loosely) lawn mower or a constant hum from an A/C. It turned off at some point yesterday only to begin humming again this morning. If you're wondering-- yes, this is a brand new fridge.
Knowing I basically can't do anything about this has left me with a ton of buyer's remorse, but what can you do? Read reviews carefully before big purchases. I thought the good reviews somehow outweighed the bad ones and was sitting here gaslighting myself the whole time thinking, "Am I the crazy one? Is this sound being heard by all the buyers of this fridge?" If I'm to believe this sound is normal, then yes. Yet it clearly only bothers a few, but I'll be a part of the loud minority.
Whirlpool told me their new fridges run the compressor more consistently for energy efficiency. OK, but the trade off is quiet? How is that OK? Make it make sense. Believe, me I will never buy Whirlpool products again because of this issue.

Grinding, whining noise

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Makes penetrating grinding, whining noise. I have to get it out of the house soon. Apparently, the noise is said to be normal. The decibel level is not particularly high, but the pitch of the sound is particularly penetrating and in an irritating range. It projects through over 1000 square feet. I am not a particularly sensitive person, but this really is remarkable. Previous refrigerators have made noise, but were nothing like this.

Noisy but OK

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s noisier than our previous refrigerator, but it’s fine. We bought this one because it’s white on the three sides that show. I do wish it was the pebble finish like the old ones used to have since it shows puppy nose prints and fingerprints just like stainless, maybe even more. Home Depot’s delivery and install was great. We bought the extended warranty through them since refrigerators don’t last like the old ones. Our beer fridge is 30+ years old and still works great (wrong color). The counter depth looks great and space is well designed.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Modern refrigerator with plenty of space and usefu

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We absolutely love the Whirlpool 36" side-by-side refrigerator. It's a lil bit deeper than our previous model and therefore we have more space for food, which is awesome. This model comes with food storage containers which have their own spot in the door. I simply love it. The fridge and freezer temperature can be easily adjusted on the led display on the front. I also love that the space under the ice maker is tall enough to get a bottle or tumbler in it. The fridge runs really quiet too. The lights inside are LED lights, which gives the inside a nice look. It was easy to set up and install. 5 stars from us, that fridge is simply awesome.

I love that is energy efficiency, and the noise level is at a minimal. I have a big family so the space that I have in this refrigerator is everything.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow wow wow!! Where do I begin! This refrigerator is beautiful! It is slim, clean and very well lit. The lights are LED and shine so brightly. I’m able to fit all my foods into the correct shelves and drawers. The temperature control is great. It keeps food at the right temperature without it freezing or getting frost bite. It is the quietest refrigerator I’ve ever had. And the door closed very quietly.

Loud compressor
