It's a great little system for what is designed for. I've had several similar systems over the past 15 years, this one definitely has its pluses and simplifies the whole process. This one has no network connectivity to be concerned about and no battery to keep the display powered while moving to a different out let or in a short power outage (a minor bummer). However, having no battery is also a plus even though you lose some convenience, because I've had systems that when that battery goes out on the display the whole system shuts down even if plugged into an outlet. So then you have to go out on the web to find a replacement battery from other source and they aren't easy to find. When you need to get the recordings, you pop out the SD card and you've got them, no internet connection needed. So, knowing that the Defender Phoenix system is not battery powered is reassuring since I won't have to worry about a dead battery killing the whole system down the line. And knowing it is not networked online keeps things very simple. Also, the VGA resolution is good because it allows you to store alot more recordings in the same space on the disk, even though sometimes I'd like to have 1080p just for kicks. So just be sure to read and confirm this system has what you need, and you'll be very happy like me! If you want more bells and whistles, then make sure you find one that lists all your wishes before you buy.

Haven’t installed this one yet but already use one and it does a good job. Can’t keep the spider webs off of the cameras tho. Drives us nuts!

My daughter bought this for me for a gift. It is nice but, only an SD card for recording. Why not a USB port to attach my 8 TB external hard drive that would constantly record even when I'm away. When you get a monitor like that please let me know. Thanks.

Bundle was great EXCEPT... NO product manual, just a "quick set-up" pamphlet. Not much info for the "less than tech savy" person!

The electrician that wired the cameras in was very impressed with the system. He had not seen this specific system, but was familiar with the type of set-up. When I noticed the company was based in Canada, I assumed the system was also manufactured in Canada, although I did not find the information anywhere, so was a bit disappointed when the printing on box stated “Country of origin, China.” I have had issues with the monitor, specifically the joy stick, which I find very difficult and awkward at times. It seems to be made for small nimble fingers. I believe the design/size of the joy stick could be improved. The information upon purchase was that a manual would accompany the product. The only manual was a 6 page 3 ¾ X 5 ¾ with such small print was almost illegible. However, I was given the link through online chat to download a complete manual. Speaking of online chats. It is impossible to pick up the phone and call tech support like most companies. You can request through chat that someone call and they were very prompt in doing so. But there seems to be no help on weekends or holidays; the chat is only weekdays and ends about 4 p.m. eastern. And one chat person gave wrong information regarding the hours on my card, thus I did not take the card out and put in computer soon enough and image was gone before I captured picture of a trespasser on my driveway. Even after all the issues, I believe it is a good system and like the set-up of a monitor instead of viewing on phone or computer. I believe it will serve the purpose for which it is intended.

So as long as what is in motion is large enough to change the pixels of the image it will be detected. Due to this the wind blowing trees or bushes will result in a motion alert on the this system.
