It's OK, but could be much better if!

My daughter bought this for me for a gift. It is nice but, only an SD card for recording. Why not a USB port to attach my 8 TB external hard drive that would constantly record even when I'm away. When you get a monitor like that please let me know. Thanks.

Pros and Cons of Defender Security Cameras

The electrician that wired the cameras in was very impressed with the system. He had not seen this specific system, but was familiar with the type of set-up.
When I noticed the company was based in Canada, I assumed the system was also manufactured in Canada, although I did not find the information anywhere, so was a bit disappointed when the printing on box stated “Country of origin, China.”
I have had issues with the monitor, specifically the joy stick, which I find very difficult and awkward at times. It seems to be made for small nimble fingers. I believe the design/size of the joy stick could be improved.
The information upon purchase was that a manual would accompany the product. The only manual was a 6 page 3 ¾ X 5 ¾ with such small print was almost illegible. However, I was given the link through online chat to download a complete manual.
Speaking of online chats. It is impossible to pick up the phone and call tech support like most companies. You can request through chat that someone call and they were very prompt in doing so. But there seems to be no help on weekends or holidays; the chat is only weekdays and ends about 4 p.m. eastern. And one chat person gave wrong information regarding the hours on my card, thus I did not take the card out and put in computer soon enough and image was gone before I captured picture of a trespasser on my driveway.
Even after all the issues, I believe it is a good system and like the set-up of a monitor instead of viewing on phone or computer. I believe it will serve the purpose for which it is intended.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Super easy!!

Very easy to set up. Very easy to navigate the monitor. The only thing that makes them not be at five, is the sensitivity of the motion detection of their cameras. I have four identical cameras. Each one is either under sensitive or oversensitive. Had to move cameras around to adapt for the situation. I’ll have one camera set on low sensitivity and it picks up cars 120 feet away. The next one is set hi and it won’t pick me up 25 feet away. Read all of their manuals and cannot figure it out other than what I did.

It has solved our need to view the area in front of the garage. Some areas of improvement to note. The inability not to invert the image so we could install it under the eves is a disadvantage. The alert is very sensitive even at the lowest setting - insects set it off. The night vision is grainy. Is it the dew settling that we see like a cloud?

Could be great, isn't yet.

The cameras are sturdy and seem well made, and the wireless recording and monitoring function has impressive range. Unfortunately, falling snow sets off the motion detection, necessitating turning off the outdoor camera much of the time. Also, any power interruption shuts down the monitor, which must be manually turned back on... a problem for extended absences. I am still waiting for a tech support response on the snow question, which I submitted a couple of weeks back. Over all, a product that could easily be great, but has fallen short for us in real world use.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Phoenix cameras are doing great so far. Easy to install and aim. Great picture. Reminds me of old 1st Alert only better. Use wired cameras for area overview and these focus on one area after wired showed Intruder but not details, these do. Great addition.
