Impossible to clean Coffee Gauge - Flakes & Leaks

The Coffee Gauge™ mechanism is literally impossible to clean.
This means that coffee bean oils and residue will accumulate in the mechanism and they will eventually start to flake off. Those flakes will eventually clog the stopper on the coffee dispenser so, after you dispense your coffee, it will leak. If you do not catch it, whatever coffee is left in the reservoir will leak all over your countertop.
So, I've had this unit for a few years. I rinse it daily, as well as clean it and soak it regularly, with soap and lemon citrus. Despite this maintenance, my coffee maker recently leaked coffee on the counter (again) so, I decided to do a really deep clean and soak to try remove all the oils & flakes. I put a few ounces of lemon citrus juice, thinking that would help break up the oils. I also added some Dawn dish soap. Then, I dumped hot water (like really hot, near boiling) and filled up the entire coffee reservoir and let it sit for several hours, thinking that might get rid of the hidden crud (flakes). Hours later, I rinsed it.
The next morning, the coffee gauge stopped working but, it sort of worked. I assume the hot water damaged it. So, today, I decided to see if I could fix the Coffee Gauge™ and I wound up removing the entire mechanism. It can be popped out, carefully.
Man O Man was there a lot of crud from the coffee oils hidden in that mechanism. This would be impossible to clean without removing the mechanism. Moreover, removing the mechanism could likely risk damaging it (it is pretty delicate). Mine was already not working so, I had nothing to loose.
So, my coffee maker still works but, the Coffee Gauge™ is now inoperable. I do not mind that because, at least, I can thoroughly clean it and avoid the crud from coming back. I will continue using it until it breaks or, I decide I want/need another coffee maker.
Again, I like the concept of this coffee maker and it is actually the second one I have owned. The first one had the same quirks.
*** FYI, the pics were taken after I cleaned the Coffee Gauge™ mechanism.
I wish I had thought of taken "before" pics; it was caked with crud from the coffee oils.

This recent one is my 3rd one. I really, really like this coffeemaker. However, there is one flaw designed into it. The filter system. The filter doesn't filter anything. If you look closely, it sits in the bottom of the water tank, but it doesn't go all the way down. Therefore, it just sits in the water and doesn't filter anything. Then they try to sell you more filters. For it to work, it would need to fit tightly in the bottom of the tank where the water would actually have to flow through the filter.

I have no idea why I brought another one of these coffeemakers. I have brought a lot of them through the years. I just got another one and it leaks all over the counter just like all the others did.

We like this design so much that this is our third of this style. The internal storage keeps the coffee hot without ever burning it as is common with a carafe style pot. The only negative (aside from the fact that they do eventually wear out) is it could be a bit taller as some of our thermal cups are just too tall to fit under the dispenser even with the base removed. Really needed another inch.

I am on my second version of this model coffeemaker, and not happy. The first one I had didn't work so I had to cut off the electrical cord and wait for a new coffee maker (no they did not refurbish it and it ended up in a landfill.). This second one I cannot use the auto-on and auto-off function, woke up one morning to coffee covering my entire countertop. I can use brew though so just have to wait for the coffee (I know, first world problem.). I expect more from this company.

Second one I’ve received that I had to return. First one leaked the first time I used it, the cord was stuck and wouldn’t pull out far enough to plug in on the second one. I have been using the Cuisinart Coffee on Demand models for over 20 years and really liked them. I will try one last time for a good one and give up on Cuisinart if I get another bad one.
