I've bought three copies of this set so far. I built two of them and I gave one to one of my friends who also comes from the eighties. This is a great set for enthusiasts from back in the day and people interested in the emerging Space theme.
Much like the Galaxy Explorer released for the 90th anniversary this updates an older model using modern building techniques. One of the great features of this set, which I hope Lego continues, is that this ship is modular, meaning you can configure it in different ways or combine multiple models. The connectors/interface system is fairly simple and could be added to any ship that you can imagine and added to the Renegade.
This ship also, has an alternate build that can be built using the Lego Building App. In the alternate build you can build a Blacktron walker that has been advertised all the way back since the 80's too! It is a great build. The app's instructions are a little hard to understand once you get past the initial few bags. I would highly recommend keeping the pieces in each bag so that they are more easily separated. Or go old school and dump them all out on a big table. Either way, you are going to have a fun build and the end result is beautiful!
I highly recommend this set and I also applaud Lego for using the app for an alternate build.

This was a fun build, not too difficult. Separating the modules is tough. The landing gear concept is great but is terrible to try to pull down. The rover that drops out is an awesome feature. The ship has great swoosh factor.

A well done remake for us 80's kids

The Renegade was one of my most beloved sets as a kid in the 1980s (still own it) so when I heard that this was coming I knew I was getting it day 1. The build is not complex but still enjoyable. My 6 year old had fun helping me for part of the build. I really like the redesign outside of the front opposite the pilot ship, it needs to be more sloped. Everything else is nicely done and goes great as a rival to the Galaxy Explorer. I hope they continue to release these vintage reimaginings of the classic themes. I would love to see the classic space and Blacktron bases and rover vehicles in the future.
