Got the Renegade yesterday! My 8-year-old son and I built it together, and he absolutely loves it. He’s already asking about the whole backstory of Blacktron, so I shared the version I came up with when I was his age.
Such an awesome set—the modularity is incredible, and it reminds me of everything I love about the classic LEGO factions. No big IPs, just pure creativity, where we could build anything we wanted with the sets we had and let our imaginations run wild.

This was a fun set to build, but the nostalgic and visual aesthetics are what really pushed me to make this purchase. I absolutely LOVE a lot of Lego themes from the 80s and 90s, but the Space themes and its subthemes really stand out. What really makes these sets stand out are their contrasting color palettes as well as the bright "see-through" pieces that gives each subtheme its own sense of individuality. The Blacktron theme was iconic, but I would love to also see some other themes make a comeback such as Ice Planet or Insectiods.

Had lots of fun building it. When I first saw images of it online I thought the color scheme was a bit too monotonous, but It looks way better after completing it in person. I didn’t grow up with Blacktron or any classic themes as a kid, but wish I did, as this was a very sick build. I really like all the neat functions and play features. Would recommend. 👍

This was a fun build and is a great "swooshing" spaceship. It's modular, but can't connect to the blacktron cruiser without a little modification. I this the real loss is not being able to connect to the new city space sets. If we had a black airlock price the renegade and cruiser could easily swoop in and acquire a city space module left unprotected and modify it to meet blacktrons needs. I would love to see more classic remakes in the future. The new city space sets will be my kids "classic space" and I hope lego keeps it going.

I must say, for the price this set is very good. I do feel it captures the Blacktron aesthetic well. I love how the black looks like their old versions. The set is all prints, which is always appreciated. I love the classic style of the prints too. The module design of the set is also really nice, really my only problem was that the set did get a little repetitive in its building at times, and was not as fun as the Galaxy Explorer set that came out before it, but even then, building this set was quite fun. Overall I would personally say if you liked the Galaxy Explorer set, you will likely enjoy this one.
