Mostly happy

PRO: I bought this printer around Feb. and I really like the automatic 2 sided feature. The speed and color are good. The inks are less expensive and even those that came with it lasted longer than I thought they would. I like the idea of customer support for life. I hope they mean it because when I loaded the software into my computer I did not choose to load the scanner. Now I need it and can't find the disk. I've had no luck with help on line or in the on line manual to load it now. So, I am counting on Brother for help.
CON: It makes a loud noise and sounds like the paper is buckeling as it is grabbed. That seems normal for this printer. I almost like it because I am in another room and can tell if it is printing without going there. What I dislike the most is that the paper tray feels flimsy. I can't tell if the paper is positioned quite right; not far enough or too far back. Maybe the stops should be more adequate. Because of this it has indicated a paper jam even when there is none. I have to open all areas to check, find nothing, and then finally turn it off and on again to erase that message.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It Just Works!

My second Brother printer, after ongoing good experience with a monochrome laser unit bought a few years ago. Again, Brother did not disappoint: hookup to my wireless network was straightforward, and the unit flawlessly prints and scans. High marks, too, for the Control Center application that makes scanning so easy.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I like the design, with exception wish single sheet was on end or front, easier to see. Photos seem to print light but I may not have learned how to do them right yet. Am technilogically impaired. IT was very easy to install and operate.... haven't used it long enough to know if deserves 5 stars.

Takes a while

I use this without the fax machine and the setup was very straightforward. I am not happy with the manual feed so far. I use it to print envelopes and it accepts one piece at a time (no problem with that) and the paper picker takes a long time to see and grab the envelope and then print it. The first envelope attempt went through ten times with no print result. Finally it printed. The envelope graphic on the manual feed tray that shows the position of the envelope was wrong (and ignored the settings I gave MS Word). I have to gently guide the envelope through the feeder. The screen kept asking for paper when the envelope was already in the feeder.
Also, I need to print mail labels from MS Access and the manual has no instructions on this or if I have to use any specific label product. I emailed and the reply was "we can't help you - call support". Ok. I'm new at labels so I'll attempt on my own and see where it takes me.
The copy function works well and the scan worked like a charm with no wifi issues. I have been using the machine for just one week so in fairness - I need to spend more time with it.
