Nowhere on my dashboard it will fit

Due to the very compact design this is completely incompatible with my dashboard (Mazda Bongo), I'll keep it in case I get a new car but pretty dissapointed. The arm is very short which prevents mounting on top of my dashboard. I could do so in landscape orientation but it would have to be right in the middle and that isn't ideal for me. It seems to be designed to mount right on the edge of the dash or on a vertical face. Like may dashboards mine is covered in buttons etc. so the face isn't an option either.
The more I look at it and play around the more it seems really limited and rather untested. Very surprised as every PD product I've purchased prior to this has been very well thought out.

Sorry for the frustration here! When designing our Car Mount, we aimed to maximize compatibility across different car makes and models, and different types of dash layouts and surfaces. The result is a mount that fits in a huge variety of different vehicles, but inevitably it may not be optimal for some. If you haven't already, please have a look thorough the article referenced below as it walks you though the various surfaces and locations you that can be considered. However, in some cases, you may be limited to mounting locations that are less than ideal, and in rare cases you might not find any viable mounting locations at all for the Car Mount product.
If you find yourself in that latter situation, we do now make a 1" Ball Adapter that has a super wide range of uses, and allows us to confidently say that the Peak Design Mobile Ecosystem now works with all sorts of additional vehicles as it is compatible with the wide variety of 1" ball adapter systems on the market!

Not for every car

Even if the magnet is really good. The Mount itself is too short compare to others products in the market.
The poor design make it cannot be put on slope surface, even on the windshield. It makes phone cannot tilt down enough to make it face the driver as it should be. (Mine is iPhone 12 Pro. Bigger phones going to suffer more). It will face upward and very likely to reflect the midday sun into the driver's eyes.
Even if you have a perfect spot to glued on. Your phone still likely to be on an awkward position and cannot be reached or cannot be looked at easily.
If you want to purchase this. Please make sure that your car have upright console.
This maybe the worst Peak Design product ever.

Examine your dashboard

Love the product but there was no place on my car's dashboard (Honda Fit) where this would work. The stand or foot presents some limitations (which is why I only gave it 3 starts0. So I made some modifications and purchased a stand to use in my car. (I'm expecting that someday PD will come out with a version 2.0).

Peak Design Removes Negative Reviews

You will NOT be able to mount this sideways (sticking out from your dash as opposed to sitting on top) without the 3M adhesive failing immediately. Yes, I waited even longer than the 24 hours to allow the adhesive to form a bond - still had my mount begin peeling off immediately upon use. If you don’t have a modern, luxury style dash like the ones pictured then this mount will probably not work for you. Really disappointed in PD as they usually design products so thoughtfully.

Sorry for the frustration here! While mounting on top of the dash is most ideal for our car mount due to the slight curvature in the base, the mounts can and have been able to be mounted to fronts of car dashboards that are more "flat" as you have described here.
We have also seen instances of adhesive failing if not properly cleaned thoroughly which is why we express this importance very strongly in all of our videos. This is especially important if products like armor-all have been used in the past as those can leave a coating that can prevent the adhesive from adhering properly.
We are also working to make modifications to the base plate of the Car Mounts to be able to better accommodate both Flat and more curved surfaces. We have reached out to you via email to send one out of these to try out and see if that resolves this issue for you as we think it should!
As for the other review not being previously visible, we do not delete reviews here at Peak Design but all of our reviews go through moderation before they are posted. In cases such as this, where a customer has had a less than stellar experience with a Peak Design product, we reach out to them individually via email in order to try to resolve the issue for them. If the issue is not resolved to a customers satisfaction or they would still like their original review posted, we will then publish the review with a public comment about the situation from us, just as we are doing here.

Well made, but not 100% perfect

My car mount’s just arrived and whilst the building quality of it is outstanding, the base could do with being completely flat for where I want to mount it. Can I suggest making two versions going forward? One with a totally flat base and one with the angled edges so customers can pick the one that’ll fit their car the best?

Great product that is everything I’ve wanted in a car charger/mount for years but just hadn’t existed yet. Now it does. If you are trying to mount it to a flat surface you should try to bend the adhesive plate back a bit to straighten it and contact more surface area. I ended up having to replace the adhesive with some scotch 30lb mounting tape that seemed to do a better job than the one that came with it. It may be because I am mounting to a textured surface, but couldn’t get a bond with the stock adhesive. Easy fix.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great for my 2016 F-250

This mount is great in my truck. My only complain would be the slightly turned down edges on the ends of the mounting pad. I LOVE the low profile of the mount! Since it basically hangs off the edge of my dash, I am able to use my phone in either portrait or landscape mode. I run Waze when I am driving, and my battery percent went up after a 45 minute commute so the mount definitely provides more energy than the phone uses while constantly on (really my only concern).
I would recommend this to a friend!
