Amazing!

Note I have not built my set yet as I am waiting as a project while I’m on vacation. But I am very excited. I did notice that a lot of the 1 star reviews on here were about not receiving their fell beast, I stayed up until 12:06 (EST) ordered my set and got the fell beast in a separate box.

Must have for LOTR fans

Like the old Lego Orthanc set, this is an iconic piece that screams “Lord of the Rings”. To me that’s the ultimate test of a set: how does it stand even without the minifigs? Is it perfect? Well, no. Sauron definitely should have been taller, though he’s a welcomed addition. The Witch King would have been perfect to include — and would have gone perfectly with the Fell Beast GWP. But I understand if (fingers crossed) it’s included in a future set (perhaps with Eowyn?). I have all of the old LOTR and Hobbit sets and I’d say this, along with Orthanc, is my favorite. Rivendell being a close third. Hope Lego starts making smaller and more affordable sets soon. Lastly, I’ll add that writing poor reviews about a set because you didn’t get the GWP isn’t fair. That has nothing to do with the set itself, although in some cases I’ve seen of people who had every right to believe they were getting it the frustration is understandable

this set is amazing and it's hard to see it have so many bad reviews because people weren't quick enough to order the set so that it included the fell beast. giving this a 1 star review should be criminal. it was such a fun build. took a lot of time and was so much fun. worth every penny!

Another Fantastic LOTR Edition

Would I love more LOTR models that are cheaper? Absolutely, but atleast with this and Rivendell LEGO Designers have knocked it out of the park to deliver one-of-a-kind collectable displays. So happy this is finally out!

The Eye is Watching

This set is fantastic. Highly detailed and very imposing. I have a few minor gripes, but they can't take away from how good the set is. It is huge, has fun play functions, tons of sharp angles, and just a lot of detail. The minifigures of Sauron and Gothmog are particularly amazing. That said here are the nitpicks: I wish Frodo and Sam had tattered clothes from the end of the movie, instead of just getting another copy of the same minifigures from Rivendell. I would have preferred a 360 tower instead of a bunch of rooms to play in (sets in this price range are more for hobbyists than kids so it would make sense to me). Lastly I wish the tower was two studs taller, (I said it would be minor). This set is good value for money and amazing to look at, not quite as perfect as Rivendell was, but still fantastic. I'll be fixing the minor issues with my own collection of parts where possible. So if anything I get to have more fun building it further. I ordered it two minutes after it went up, so I did get the GWP, but I understand why people are frustrated at not getting it. It is a growing problem that those of us who actually want the sets to build have to compete so hard against scalpers for these things. I don't know what Lego could do to help with it beyond increasing their stock of GWPs, but they need to come up with something. I don't think that should take away from the review of the set itself though.

The dark fortress of Mordor... in Lego
on June 15, 2024

I bought the set for myself and built it with some friends over a few hours. The build can be a bit repetitive in some areas, but overall, the experience was quite enjoyable. The final result is an imposing display, standing nearly three feet tall, that watches over whatever room you place it in. The interior of the tower, while initially offputting, works quite well for creating smaller scenes to display the minifigures included in the set, the selection of which is fairly solid. While Frodo and Sam's outfits are a bit inaccurate for when they are in Mordor, and Gothmog could have used a custom hairpiece, the rest of the figures are some of the best in the series. It might not be as impressive and challenging as Rivendell, but Barad-dûr is still fantastic and arguably one of the best Lego sets of 2024.
