Worthy evil counterpart to Rivendell

This set is truly a sight to behold. I expected it to be tall but when I walked into the LEGO store, I was shocked at how big it was in person. I’m glad it was open on the back so it could actually fit on my shelf, and closing it off on the back would have added hundreds of dollars to an already expensive set. The figures, for the most part are great! New molds for Sauron, the mouth, and a great helmet 8 pack. The Frodo and Sam figures really should have had some wear and tear detail like the movie though. They could have included a few more orc figs to have a bigger army as well. Here’s hoping they make smaller sets in the future for more people to enjoy!

One does not simply ...

Have the best time ever building a piece of Mordor. Or, I should say, they do! This was the perfect follow-up to the serene beauty of Rivendell. The harshness and despair of Barad-Dur is evident in this design and the little "secrets" to be found throughout are icing on the cake. The pieces that were created or recolored specifically for this set add to its timelessness. This set will be something that I and my family will enjoy for many years to come. Bravo, LEGO! And now ... how long until we get Minas Tirith or Gondolin? ;)

Shut up and take my money!

Easily my favorite set so far, it's so cool. Some of my previous favs are Starry Night, Typewriter, NES, Space Shuttle Discovery, so Barad-Dûr is easily the largest set I have built so far.
The only thing I didn't like about this set is that it ended. I wish it was 10000 pieces.
Actually one thing that is bothering me is that the face print on my Sauron minifig does't line up with the eye slots on the helmet, so I don't get the full effect of the burning eyes. Also the bonus Fell Beast set should have just been included.
For these reasons I can only give the set a 98 out of 100.
The custom minifig with a Mordor shirt option was also extremely cool. I'm now definitely feeling FOMO over not getting Rivendell, so I will be taking care of that soon. If any other LOTR sets come out I'm likely going to have to put the cats on a diet again.

LOTR Fan Must Have

Absolutely loved this build and the minifigures are fantastic! I wish Frodo and Sam had scene appropriate torso prints, but I loved the inclusion of the orc helmets. I think a couple more orcs would have been good for the price tag, maybe Shagrat and Gorbag as named orcs from Cirith Ungol, but the Sauron and Mouth are amazing. All in all I think this is a must have for LOTR fans and I hope you all are able to get your hands on it.

Truly a great set that I hope inspires more LOTR sets to follow. Particularly some more play scale sets on the more affordable side. That being said this set and the GWP were perfect and did the source material Justice.

Built this product in waves of 5-6 bags at a time, roughly 18-19 hours. The newer models are starting to appear more detailed, and this tower really shows it. The tower is enormous compared to most sets around the same price range. Great price per piece for the set. The mini figures really put the icing on the cake for this set. Sauron is the golden piece next to the unique build for the eye for the tower. Everything connects and disconnects great if you need to move the tower around without lugging the entire thing around the house to another display or to play. The only downfall for this set was several solid black pieces had scratches on them, probably from just the packaging and pieces moving around, but it’s hardly noticeable when put together. Overall, it’s a fantastic set. Compared to the Rivendell set, I would put this second for the pure amount of unique mini figures that come with Rivendell, however, this is a must have for any Lord of the Rings fan or Lego fanatic.

One brick to rule them all

I think I enjoyed putting Rivendell together a little more, however this was a long overdue set. I would have liked to see a bit more thought put into the light design rather than slapping a battery powered brick on the back and calling it a day, but other than that it was fun to put together. The palantir and throne were pretty neat and great figurines! it looks awesome in my home office, right next to Rivendell. I would most definitely recommend. LotR is my kryptonite and I just had to snatch this set up the min it dropped.

So much fun to build together with my daughter, she absolutely loves all the play functions and having other characters join in with Sauron at the dinner table, excellent play set thats highly displayable. Sad to see it get review bombed by people who missed the GWP, hoping lego produces more Lotr sets at a smaller price-point so everyone can get a nazgul featured set of their own.
