Best set EVER! Peak Lego. 99/100
on June 22, 2024

I have built for decades and have built many Icon sets and large sets. This was one of the best value for the money, good quality build, and cool functionality. I would rate this a 99/100 if i had to grade it. Only gripe is there are 2 spots blue pieces slightly show through the black, but barely and only looking very close. The quality of the figures, the printed pieces, the functions in the tower, and the sturdiness of the build all surprised me for the value. For though expensive was fair the enormity of the build and the quality of printed pieces. For reference my previous favorite was mos isley set and I am a way bigger Star Wars set, but this tower blew it away. I was not at all embarrassed to tell co-workers and everyone I collect Lego, to display this masterpiece. Truely the finest of sets.

Excellent Set

Truly a great set that I hope inspires more LOTR sets to follow. Particularly some more play scale sets on the more affordable side. That being said this set and the GWP were perfect and did the source material Justice.

Let this be the Return of the Theme!

"His fortress of Barad-Dur is rebuilt in the land of Mordor." Or rather rebuilt in LEGO! This set is amazing! I was very excited when I heard rumors about this set last year and I can honestly say that LEGO has outdone themselves yet again. Sauron's Dark Tower is expertly designed and full of fun details. Once again, I greatly appreciated every one of the comments and quotes that the creators put in the instructions. Regarding features of the set, I especially love the Eye of Sauron and every design choice that was made for it because it turned out spectacularly and was very fun to build. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the lava was designed throughout, the outer textures of the tower, as well as the roomy and detailed interiors. Barad-Dur is the tallest LEGO set I've ever built and I continue to marvel at its structural integrity and ingenuity. Bravo to the whole LEGO team behind this set!
The Minifigures are all very high quality. Sauron of course is the cream of the crop and it is still incredible to believe that he exists! Much appreciation to LEGO for making that happen! Gothmog and all of the Orcs are insanely cool as are their new helmets, hair pieces, and shields. The updated Mouth of Sauron and Gollum are excellent too. Frodo and Sam's Orc helmets are exactly the way they are in the movie which is astounding. If Sam and Frodo each had a piece of Orc armor to cover their Hobbit clothes that would have made them impeccable. It was rumored that there would be 15 minifigures like there was in Rivendell and I was disappointed when there was only 10. Especially seeing as how the prices of the two sets are similar. I would've been happy even if there were duplicates of the Orcs.
Overall, I am very happy with this set and I, like many fans, hope that the success of this set bodes very well for seeing a return of the entire LEGO LOTR theme. I think that everyone that purchased this set would be interested a range of new LOTR sets. Particularly some smaller and more affordable sets. I will certainly be on the lookout, hoping and wishing for their return!

LOTR Fan Must Have
on June 9, 2024

Absolutely loved this build and the minifigures are fantastic! I wish Frodo and Sam had scene appropriate torso prints, but I loved the inclusion of the orc helmets. I think a couple more orcs would have been good for the price tag, maybe Shagrat and Gorbag as named orcs from Cirith Ungol, but the Sauron and Mouth are amazing. All in all I think this is a must have for LOTR fans and I hope you all are able to get your hands on it.

Beautiful piece to have in your collection.

I was reading through the reviews and was truly shocked to see how many people put a 1 star review because they didn't receive the GWP. You must take into consideration how many people wanted to buy this set and the site was probably swamped with buyers at midnight launch. I bought the set about 40 minutes after 6/1 launch and i was able to receive the fell beast GWP. I know it must be upsetting to not receive the GWP but, these reviews should be for the overall peice itself. The overall build is stunning and is definitely an eye candy piece to add to your Lord of the Rings collection. I know it's a lot of money but, if you want to invest in this set, I think it's worth it in the end...

Fantastic build

So much fun to build together with my daughter, she absolutely loves all the play functions and having other characters join in with Sauron at the dinner table, excellent play set thats highly displayable. Sad to see it get review bombed by people who missed the GWP, hoping lego produces more Lotr sets at a smaller price-point so everyone can get a nazgul featured set of their own.

Worthy evil counterpart to Rivendell

This set is truly a sight to behold. I expected it to be tall but when I walked into the LEGO store, I was shocked at how big it was in person. I’m glad it was open on the back so it could actually fit on my shelf, and closing it off on the back would have added hundreds of dollars to an already expensive set. The figures, for the most part are great! New molds for Sauron, the mouth, and a great helmet 8 pack. The Frodo and Sam figures really should have had some wear and tear detail like the movie though. They could have included a few more orc figs to have a bigger army as well. Here’s hoping they make smaller sets in the future for more people to enjoy!
