I built Rivendell about the time Barad-dur came out so i missed the promotion. But right after finishing Rivendell I ordered Barad-dur and began building. In my opinion, Rivendell is "prettier" (duh) but the Barad-dur felt like it did the Tower justice. It was a great build, the detail is fantastic, and I enjoyed it just as much as i did Rivendell. Just make sure to measure the space you are thinking of putting it, it is definitely tall.
Ignore the negative reviews, they're mostly gift with purchase related. My initial thoughts were already positive before I started building. The only negative being the figure count. I think this set could have used a few more figs for the price point. However, the build was outstanding and when you but the finished tower on top of the base......top tier. the build really made me forget the figure count, on top of the fact that the Sauron fig is basically perfect. Definitely worth it, it looks SO good.

The build was fun. But they really need to rearrange some steps. Cause i could barely get my hand into area to place pieces on the inside. Cause they have you build a floor and then put it onto place and end up with a box where my hand would barely fit and I would knock over or break off a piece trying to add the little items to the floor
When I got this set for Christmas last year, I was a little bit scared because I have never built a set this big before, but with the instructions being separated into 3 different books and easy to follow along with pictures, this made the set very fun to build and rewarding. The attention to detail in this set is immaculate and has many easter eggs that fans will get a chuckle out of. On top of this set being absolutely breathtaking, it is very easy to transport because you can slide off each of the levels for easier movement and play. All and all a really fun set to add to your collection!

I'll be honest, I'm a Lord of the Rings fan before I'm a LEGO fan and Rivendell is what drew me back into the world of LEGO since childhood. I debated getting Barad-Dur but my mom ended up buying it for me for my birthday. It is SUCH a fun build and the little secrets and mechanisms are so cool to put together and use. I love having the little Frodo and Sam at Mount Doom in the corner as well. There's so many little details. It's super striking sitting in my sister's old room (it is now the LEGO room) and I love walking by it every day. If you're a LOTR fan, you have to have this.

The set looks awesome and seems far bigger and impressive in person than on pictures. Despite the high price I really enjoyed the process of building this iconic tower. I also like the interior details of the build, however I have to criticise the lighting of the eye (perhaps the red light is only meant to showcase the specific scene in the "Return of the King", when the eye glows red before the tower starts collapsing), but I think for this price a permanent lighting option (e.g a brick powered via usb included in the set) would have enhanced the set and further justified the price. I personally fixed this small issue by installing a mini spotlight on the wall behind it and it looks great. In conclusion: Great display piece, but with a small improvement from Lego it could be superb.

Thank you for bringing back more Lord of the Rings sets! Barad Dur is an exciting new addition to our LEGO Middle Earth and medieval collection. As a hobbyist, parent, and educator, my family and I are so excited LEGO is bringing more LOTR sets to life. Please continue making more sets of all sizes! Tolkien's classics are timeless and will never go out of style. They definitely deserve a permanent LEGO World of their own!
