I actually was nicely impressed as it arrived packaged well and I had no missing pieces. Directions were good and I enjoyed spending about 15 hours building. A stand would be nice for this build.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

One of the best sets I’ve build in a while. A lot of fun little interactions involving the tower. I wish Lego would add more lighting to big projects like this because that light doesn’t do justice for big fire eye in the sky. I feel like Sauron could have been better with a bigger or taller size but I’m just glad we finally got one. Can’t wait to see the next set of the LotR.

I love the LOR sets and this is probably my favorite. Love how the dark and light colors blend together and it was a lot of fun to build.

But it is a slog to build such a large black, brown and gray tower. I really like the way it turned out. It looks amazing. I'll most likely be buying more brightly colored sets for a while. Going from Rivendell to this was very jarring.

I really enjoyed building this set! It took a long time and kept me occupied for a while. Very detailed and intricate design. The minifigures are unmatched, easily my favorite set i’ve ever built so far.
however i was missing a piece, wasn't a super important piece but still for the price i shouldn’t be missing anything.

I built Rivendell about the time Barad-dur came out so i missed the promotion. But right after finishing Rivendell I ordered Barad-dur and began building. In my opinion, Rivendell is "prettier" (duh) but the Barad-dur felt like it did the Tower justice. It was a great build, the detail is fantastic, and I enjoyed it just as much as i did Rivendell. Just make sure to measure the space you are thinking of putting it, it is definitely tall.
