A challenge, but worth it

I bought this for me and my husband to work on. We're almost done. It has been an absolute blast to work on! Not a quick, easy build, which is exactly what we wanted. Definitely worth the time and money for this set!

Rivals Rivendell in Build Experience

Like some others, I did have to wait a little longer for my shipment to arrive but that should not detract from the amazing build experience that Barad Dur provided. Each bag was reasonably sized, and the build order was such that it provided for a fun multi-day build that you could see the dark lord’s tower take shape with each bag. The final build looks amazing and having been fortunate to build Rivendell and Barad Dur back to back, I believe the experience was equal or better to Rivendell.

Dark and Imposing

I am extremely satisfied with this set. Many are naturally comparing this with Rivendell, however, that is unfair as they are very different concepts. The Rivendell set certainly succeeds in drawing you in to that peaceful, beautiful haven. Barad-dur should not have that effect upon people. It should be dark and imposing. This set more than succeeds here. I've never owned a set that carries a presence like this one. It truly feels like that great eye is upon you when entering into the room. My only minor quibble relates to the Frodo and Sam minifigures. They are reused from the Rivendell set and thus are visually out of place as they should be more tattered and worn as they approach Mount Doom. However, this complaint by no means diminishes my full recommendation for this set. It is worth the price.

This was so much fun to build & I love the minifigs that came with it. Lots of details, hidden compartments, bits that move and an eye that lights up--what's not to love!
