Great value, amazing mini figure lineup, and great playable. The amount of detail is unbelievable and this in my opinion stands toe to toe with Rivendell and blows the Shire out of the water. Great build experience and would highly recommend for any lord of the rings fan.

This set is a perfect addition to the Lego collection for Lord Of The Rings. It brings to life an impressive structure from one of my favorite fantasy worlds. Lets start the review with the sets physical appearance.
Physical Appearance- It manages to be tall, impressive, dark and intimidating all at the same time. The flowing lava and molten rock add a great contrast to the base of the tower with its gloss black walls. The designers have managed to create a tower that looks like it was removed from the rock and plopped right on your display. The silhouette is amazing. No matter what the lighting is, you can immediately identify it. The interior manages to tell the story with details throughout the few rooms all while adding small bits of humor. The only negative I can think of (it is very minor) is how the light looks when shining on the eye. This is easily modified by adjusting the angle or utilizing a different lighting source.
Build experience- This build utilizes many intriguing methods especially for the walls. It contains many awesome mechanical features like the opening gate. It can be slightly repetitive at times but well worth it in the end. The set is divided into three sections which allow for a natural stopping point to maximize your building experience. This method is fantastic for families and groups of people who want to make it a group project. Just split the bags and match them with the correct instruction booklet, divide and conquer. The build time is perfect for sitting back and reliving the world of Lord of the Rings in the movies. I was exceedingly content with this build. It shows the extreme expertise of your designers. The tidbits sprinkled throught the books are always fun to read and enhance the process.
Price- The fact that lego sets of this caliber are expensive is no small secret. However, I believe this price to be fair for such a fantastic looking set.

Almost as good as Rivendell

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent product from Lego once again! Great build experience and overall wonderful set. I don’t understand why people write bad reviews because they didn’t order the set to receive the gift with purchase in time or the shipping box was damaged. That’s not Lego’s fault or an indictment of this set.

Barad Dur was fun to build. Constructing the lava field below, the rock formations encrusting the tower, up to the great eye, it was a joy to see this dark monument take shape. I particularly like the fact that it can be taken apart into three stable sections for moving or for play. It is very imposing standing next to my son's Gringot's Bank. It is also a nice contrast to his Rivendell. The addition of the Fellbeast was an excellent GWP and fits right in to the Mordor diorama.

The set is incredible. The only issue I have is that I didn't receive three accompanying Wraith wing rider set I was told in the store I would get.

Expensive but worth it. Had a blast building this set with my son over 4 days. We alternated building each bag together and had fun talking about the LOTR movies as we did it. I do wish there were some printed pieces instead of stickers. I think it’s a reasonable request based on the price. Overall this is a great set and I hope Lego continues to produce more LOTR sets.

My 18 year-old grandson comes to visit for a week or two every summer; Lego building is a highlight of his time, legos are his passion. He finished this Lord of the Rings set in his spare time in about 7 days. It was a challenge but great fun. What a sense of accomplishment once it was completed. Many characteristics have been sharpened because of legos ~ finishing what you start, eye hand coordination, puzzle solving, his family is there to cheer him on. Legos are a wonderful confidence builder!!
