Great Build for LotR Fan

As both a LotR and Lego fan, this was a must have for me. And I think Lego did a great job given that Barad-dur is a dark subject for a Lego project versus the opportunity that Rivendale was.

An ambitious undertaking with good results

While Barad-Dur isn't the most well described location in an otherwise very detailed Middle Earth, Lego and the designers have done a good job striking a balence with this set. I think it hits every mark of a modern adult set, some better than others of course, but I do believe the sum is greater than the parts for this set.
The display presence this set has is nearly unmatched. The build process is good having some great moments and some average ones just going through the motions - what keeps the build experience alive at an even pace is the gradual rise of this monstronsity. Play features are present and well attempted for an otherwise lack of detail on what it "should" be or have been. Minfigures while fewer than Rivendel, have great weight to most of them and some notable stand out stars. The design and color that comes together as you move through an otherwise common part list is what really impresses throughout the build.
Overall, price point is high, but lower than Rivendell when they could have easily went higher. I think it is a fanastic 2nd addition to the modern Lord of the Rings location sets.

What a set!

From the box design to every detail that follows after that seal is cut. This set is phenomenal, so happy with the Size and attention to detail. Can't wait to add mock details and build a scene matching of this incredible set. Thank you Lego.

Absolutely Amazing!

I have been so excited to build this ever since it was rumored to be in design! I have loved the LEGO LOTR and Hobbit theme so to know they are being brought back is really exciting! This build was the perfect mix of challenge and fun. It was very similar to the tower of orthanc given all the darker peices but well augmented by the details within the interiror.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought it for myself and I love it so much! It was so fun to build, the detail and design were 10 out of 10 in my opinion. And the minifigures were so cool as well. I'm so happy to show this off with my Rivendell set

Missing pieces

After eagerly waiting for this set, I was disappointed while building that it is missing 10 essential pieces, there might be more as that’s up to bag 20. I now have an unfinished set and have to wait for Lego to send the pieces. This took all the joy out of the build and made it a very frustrating and annoying task I feel I have to finish. Very dissatisfied with this Lego experience and build. For a set costing this much, one would think quality control would be top notch.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
