So disappointed. I got this for my husband last Christmas. He loves rice! We have the Zojirushi mugs and love them so we thought this rice cooker was a no brainer. I don't know if ours is defective or what, but it spews sticky, starchy water out of the hole in the lid and all over our counter! I read on their website to make sure and wash the rice beforehand, and we have washed rice, soaked rice, rinsed and rinsed again. It doesn't matter. The cooker still spews everywhere! Also, the instructions say to let it sit on Keep Warm for 15 minutes once it finishes cooking, but when we did this, the rice turned out very dry. So now we put paper towels down when we cook it and unplug it as soon as it is done.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We appreciate you sharing your experience with our rice cooker. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced some difficulties while using it. Most often with the NHS model rice cooker, spewing can be experienced if there is excess starch, the rice is not soaked before cooking, the water lines are not followed or if a part on the lid is missing. Since you have shared that you are rinsing the rice well and are soaking the rice, we can discount the first two as the cause. We recommend checking the lid to see if a little rubber ring is in the steam vent and to ensure the measuring cup is being used to measure the rice and the corresponding water lines in the pan are being followed. This is our second rice cooker of the same type. We love it! Never a care, never a concern…. It just makes the rice while we are making the rest of the dinner. Every kind of rice is perfect. The warning about cancer causing agents in this product are about the styrofoam in the packing, nothing else, so don’t worry. I am completely happy with this product. We have rice about three times per week, if that helps.

Works well, we wanted a basic rice cooker that also can be used as a steamer. The steam does spout everywhere, but read a tip to cover the whole with the rice spoon.

We are so happy to hear that this rice cooker fit your needs. As for the steam issue, this can happen if there is too much excess starch in the rice, or too much water has been added. First, we recommend rinsing the rice really well to make sure all the excess starch is removed. The water should run somewhat clear. Then be sure to follow the water lines in the pan corresponding to the number of cups of rice you are cooking.
