TurboTax is the only way to file taxes

I have been using TurboTax since the '80s and the product has only improved over time. It has always been easy with its step-by-step approach. Not only do I feel confident in doing my own taxes, but I am able to keep up on the latest tax changes and understand exactly what I need to do.

Multiple disappointing glitches

Imposed a short tax year that I did not select. Completed error check with no errors but then reported errors when I went to print. Requires "detailed explanation" field be completed for form 2116, but only catches this on second review prior to printing -- there is no opportunity to fill this in earlier in the questionnaire form, and no information is provided. This was a problem last year, still not fixed. No fiduciary form provided for Idaho (or for several other states). All in all, an underdeveloped, crude piece of software. This is a mature product. It should be flawless.

So-so for S-corp

Clunky handling of our S-corp taxes; unable to handle owner distributions and balance sheets without editing forms manually. For an expensive, "user-friendly" program, this was unacceptable. Unable to e-file (Colorado) because TurboTax is apparently not an approved vendor. Wowza.
