The support team (especially Kristin) was fantastic. They always answered my questions with making me feel lacking.
Having to file my amended business return using desktop instead of online was NOT convenient. This needs to be rectified immediately to keep customers. Thus the reason for four stars.

Handled a Complex Trust Return Successfully

I used TurboTax Business Desktop to complete a final-year trust return (Form 1041) along with the California fiduciary return (Form 541), including a home sale with stepped-up basis and K-1 distributions to beneficiaries. Overall, the software performed well and allowed me to successfully complete and e-file both federal and state returns. The workflow was structured, error checking was helpful, and the automatic generation of K-1s worked as expected.
However, there are areas where the experience could be improved—particularly for trust and estate filings. Some sections lack clear explanations, especially around fiduciary concepts like allocating deductions between taxable and tax-exempt income. In several places, the software asks for inputs without explaining why they are needed, which can be confusing for users without advanced tax knowledge.
Additionally, California fiduciary adjustments and related worksheets are not very intuitive, and the character limit on trust names caused inconsistencies between federal and state entries. With clearer guidance, better explanations, and more real-world examples, TurboTax Business could be an even stronger tool for complex trust filings. Despite the complexity of my situation, I was able to complete the return successfully, which speaks well to the overall capability of the software.

Backup or lose file

Cannot retrieve file unless using online version. If you fail to back up and then lose that access, it is not a good result.

More guidance needed for special statements

I don't like the bits at the end of the return that are statements you have to make about form 1116. There is not enough guidance for these.
