Trust Return
on March 8, 2026

No NC Fiduciary return available - i had to do it by hand.
Also the program thought it was a GA Trust since the Trustee has a GA address.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

TurboTax Needs to be Modernized
on March 8, 2026

I have been using TurboTax over ten years and it has not changed or improved a bit. Same clunky interface, poor intelligence about what is appropriate for each form and carrying over information to other areas of the return, poor help to understand how different elements of the return might apply to my situation. I use it out of necessity but it makes the tax preparation process even more painful than having to pay taxes in the first place. Several times the IRS has come back with a different amount due, so I question the accuracy of TurboTax's results. It's the only thing that makes me keep a Windows PC around - why no Mac or cloud version yet? Too bad they keep lobbying the government to keep the system complicated and private to juice their business model.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

IRS Section 663(b) for Qualified Disability Trusts
on March 9, 2026
Posted by: QDT Trusts
from NY
This is in regards to IRS Section 663(b) and the ability to extend distributions for a trust by 65 days into the next year. I am a trustee for a private trust, the beneficiary is disabled and has a Qualified Disability Trust (QDT) that would be a Complex Trust were she not disabled. The process of getting TurboTax Business to recognize the Section 663(b) extension was convoluted. I had to declare the trust first as a Complex Trust and go through nearly all the Step-by-Step screens to set up Section 663(b).. I learned that the way to have the return created correctly was to wait until the very end before changing the Trust Type to QDT. Changing the Trust Type to QDT too early in the process removes the options to invoke Section 663(b). This was confusing and time consuming. Can you enable Section 663(b) for a QDT for the outset of the Step-by-Step?
