Error detection pre E-filing
on September 16, 2025

When the return is complete, it shows no errors. Then when you go to E-file, it has errors. Would be nice if those errors were noted so that you didn't have to go back into the return to correct, and then restart the E-file process. They are usually missing signing dates, or phone numbers. Thanks.

Great difficulty that ended up with a late filing due to failure to transmit the returns. The help section had no answers and there was no apparent support to help me.

S-Corp prepped and E-Filed same day for under $300

Intuit's TurboTax Business (1120-S) desktop software greatly streamlined the process of completing the required S-Corp forms and enabled us to prepare, complete, and e-file the same day and for under $300. However TurboTax could only accomplish this after we spent days using QuickBooks to reconcile bank statements, re-organize expenses into final categories, including reviewing credit card statements, payroll and payroll contributions, independent contractor costs, insurance costs (BOP, Bldg, Health, etc), depreciation schedules, etc. While this generates a solid P&L and Balance Sheet - ultimately only the figures are needed complete their process. With that handy, TurboTax simply asks us to enter the numbers in its intuitive step-by-step process. That process took a couple hours, plus additional time as we identified revisions were needed, or more granular figures based on categories, depreciation tables etc. All needed to be entered manually since our QB was not installed on the same computer we used to prepare TurboTax Desktop. We also had transactions not detailed in QB that needed tax reporting (ie: credit card expenses), connecting was not ideal for us anyway. When completed, TurboTax completed a review and identified issues related to depreciation which we corrected, It also offered free e-file, which required printing an e-file form, signing, scanning, and uploading it to add to the filing. All was then submitted the same day to IRS and our State agency. A detailed file was provided to us in PDF download, and audit support protection offered for $60. We aborted the online TurboTax Assisted version since it would have cost about $850, however by downloading the desktop (Win or Mac), cost dropped to $190 plus state plus audit for about $300 total. Virtually identical process. For support, the online version was run in parallel at no cost, and a support ticket requested, however only used once for basic questions (form completion details). At the end we purged our online data (1 click). Downside to all TurboTax users: TurboTax doesn't offer guidance on how to categorize your expenses, when to depreciate, etc unless you hire their Live Assist of course (we didn't). It also requires the software to approve the details you enter before it will complete an e-file. If/when errors exist, it identifoes and provides suggestions on the cause and correction needed. Very impressive feature! If you cannot correct (or don't know how to), you can print and mail the return, but cannot e-file. For us, we solved the errors after some confusion and e-filed, however others may find it a challenging roadblock. Also, its difficult to see the entire return before filing, which is dozens of pages. Lastly, it stamps the signature line as 'Self-Prepared' - as a clear indicator to the IRS that this form was not completed professionally. While TurboTax got the job done with the information we had, there are many subjective decisions the really need professional guidance, and ideally review, long before the filing date. Going forward, I'll pay our accountant for that help, but feel confident we can handle the actual filing process ourselves. Hope your experience is as good.

A Good Foundational Tool for e-Filing our Return
on September 16, 2025

TurboTax Business - Desktop software was a relatively smooth experience my first time using for Tax Year 2024, some degree of learning along the way as getting acquainted with the software and it being my first time filing for our small partnership entity (less than 10 partners). The installation was smooth compatibility with my Windows 11 64-bit system.
But there could definitely be a few gaps closed with process guidance to make the purchase and download process a more guided experience to eliminate multiple disconnects present in the journey -- needs a few helpful advance instruction steps at points to eliminate some mildly frustrating guesswork and troubleshooting on proper approach for efficiently accessing the download, or maybe better unify the multiple different disconnected steps involved in downloading, accessing, launching, and activating the purchase. The process of advancing through the filing preparation steps could also benefit from some key additional guidance tips for ensuring a DIY e-filer is aware of some necessary basic quality control elements to reviewing the populated forms prior to readiness to submit the filings.
*****With some baseline product familiarity now, I am feeling ready to experience a smooth journey in handling Tax Year 2025 preparation and filing!
Pros: My employment status changed this year
