Disaster Relief Disclosure
on June 21, 2025
Posted by: PL2025
from Bowling Green, KY
It would be great if you had some place (or explanation online or within the software) to be able to designate an extended due date due to a federally declared disaster area. We did not suffer loss, so the Casualty Loss forms are not necessary, but the IRS and KY both asked that the Disaster Relief Information be at the top of the first page of the return. This did not seem to be available anywhere in the business software.
Pros: My employment status changed this year

Preparing 1041 for deceased persons trust a waste
on June 21, 2025

Prepared 1041 for a trust of a deceased relative. Cost over 200$ for software and no taxes were due. Pain in the butt and expensive. Can only use with window and I use a Mac. Should be a much easier way to file these forms. I have used Turbo Tax for 20 years, this was awful. Premium software should have been allowed to create this return!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Not bad for the price

For the most part, the program is pretty good. Of course, it's not what you would get with professional grade software in regard to ease and efficiency. Our main issue is that an extension can't be filed electronically, so we always send it Certified Mail in order to have concrete proof of mailing date and receipt by the IRS. Cost is the biggest plus compared to what a CPA would charge for my family's little LLC (gas royalties). We've been using TurboTax for several years.

I like turbo Tax

Turbo tax is easy to use. It is difficult to navigate to logon to access the Product. The AI component is apparently meant for advertising to the lowest skilled user. It was personal tax, this would probably just fine, but business it is an annoyance which distracts from the product nature, and ease of use, once it is engaged. Treat the Business user as a professional !

Serious flaw in TurboTax for partnership returns
on June 24, 2025
Posted by: LymanLakes
from Chicago, IL
Misleading questions led to a wrongly filed return. It asks if you are a non-U.S. citizen, and if you answer yes, it wrongly designates you as a foreign partner. U.S. resident aliens should be classified as domestic partners. It’s hard to believe that the tax preparation software I paid so much for makes such a stupid mistake. I seriously doubt I’ll be using it again next year!
