A little less great this year

TurboTax Business is usually a great software package, but this year it was a little less great. For the Trust return I was filing, there was a discrepancy in the number of entries for capital gains between the Step-by-Step View and the Forms View. In the end, I decided to trust the Forms View, but this was a little disconcerting for an expensive software package for such an important output.

issues with doing an Estate/Trust tax return

I was trying to use the business Turbotax for doing my mom's estate/trust income tax. the software was missing many key estate related questions/inputs as well as it did not provide proper uploading and finalizing for the tax return (the error messages referenced wrong problems and were inconsistent). It is nowhere near as helpful/user friendly as the regular personal turboTax software.

Atrocious

Absolutely atrocious. I have used Turbotax since it started. Every year they do nothing to solve the problems that have existed for several years. In particular the blank or black screen that is required to activate. How to activate if you can't see the screen. This is basic UX design and inexcusable for a company such as this. Hours spent every year this exists, rebooting, turning off antivirus and firewall, booting in safe mode at low resolution, only to print, or to activate, or to pay for audit defense. All of these require a popup browser window that Turbotax cannot bother to solve. I have to stay with them because of the extensive history (I compare line by line to the previous year.) Unbelievably bad for 2025 (and 2024, 23, etc...) that they don't care and the company does not provide a solution. This has been well documented for years now.

Trust 1041 was a breeze

This my 1st experience using turbo tax business to fill out the 1041 for a trust and I found it easier than my personal taxes. However I only had 4 numbers to enter.

LLC Return

Got the K-1s done as well as the 1065. Only had trouble with the balance of the books, finally got it to work

TT Biz for trusts saves me a lot of headaches

I used TT Biz for a trust tax return. I am not a tax pro, but I have used this program since 2016. The federal return instructions are pretty good, but there is a steep learning curve if you are new to trust taxes. The federal transfers some BUT NOT ALL data to the state return (Illinois). You have to learn what items are not transferred and transfer them manually.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
