Problem with Electronic Filing in Wisconsin

Problem with Electronic Filing in Wisconsin - Form 5S, Part I, Line 23, Page 2
I believe there is an error in the Wisconsin State 5S form for use by Wisconsin Subchapter S corporations. This error prevents me from being able to file the return electronically. This happened to me last year, and again this year. Last year I had to obtain a waiver from the Wis Dept of Revenue to file hard-copy by mail, which I did, but they lost my return and accused me of not filing it. This was eventually corrected. To prevent this from happening again, here's what I did:
Form 5S, Part I, Line 23, Page 2 pulls a number form the Federal Form 1120S. If this number is negative, you cannot file electronically in Wisconsin. NOTE that the text description for Line 23 asks for "gross receipts" which, by definition, has to be a positive number, whereas Part II, Line 20, page 3 calculates "gross income". Gross *receipts* and gross *income* are not the same thing, but the Wisconsin TurboTax form uses the same number (at least, in my case, it does). Anyway. Not sure if this is a Wisconsin problem or a TurboTax problem.
My solution was to override the value in Part I, Line 23, Page 2 by adding all *receipts* (that is, positive numbers) listed in Part II, Schedule 5K, lines 4, 5, and 8 (in my case), ignoring the negative number in line 1. I also attached lengthy explanation to my tax return as "Additional Information". We'll see if this works.

TurboTax Needs To Change GA Tax Credit Form Stuff
on March 13, 2025
Posted by: NathanHaller
The process is easy, but it still comes up with the same issue every year where it forcefully adds the Film Tax Credit form to your filing and will not tell you that is why it won't go through until you manually delete it. Until that is removed, I cannot give this 5 stars.

Turbo Tax for Trusts SUCKS!
on March 13, 2025

Used it to file a trust tax return and produce a K1. In addition to being expensive this program sucks and is next to useless. There is a lot of information you have to fill in on your own with little or no guidance. Wind up having to do a lot of research on your own.

Too Many Bugs
on March 13, 2025

Better than filling out forms by hand, but not nearly as good as it should be for over $100. The TurboTax Business software is extremely buggy and sends preparers down unnecessary rabbit holes that the program has the data to avoid. For example, the program told me I needed to fill out Schedule J because of a large distribution, but when I read through the IRS instructions that form was only applicable if the trust was formed before 1984. TurboTax has the data in the information section to avoid this.
Also, the accounting elections menu buries some of the most common elections when trusts or estates have operating losses. I missed out on a loss carryforward election because the form isn't available in the forms menu and is buried 4 menus deep in the step-by-step menu. I literally couldn't find it even though the program told me the name of the form to fill out.
