I have used the personal version of H & R's tax software for many years. This past year I needed the business version since I am an independent consultant now. The business deduction questions helped me better organize my own records. I also really liked the ability to plug in numbers to test out different scenarios to see how the bottom line of my tax were affected. And, because I now tend to have to pay more taxes due to my business, the suggestions for the SEP and the HSA were very beneficial and saved me a ton by following through. Again, I could plug in different amounts I thought I could contribute to these 2 tax shelters and see the tax implications immediately - so helpful in my planning! I appreciate the importation of information from previous years. But like 1 previous reviewer, please do something about populating the driver's license information.
had an error in my previous year AGI as used as a signature - was unable to correct the mistake. Had to start over from the beginning - six agonizing hours UUUUGH! insult to injury -I was charged twice to submit the State Return.
First time using Business edition; needed it (or so i thought) do do my company's 1120-S. What a pain. The screen where you have questions, info and inputs like radio buttons and block text fields are MIS-ALIGNED. They are too far down and to the right, so that they obliterate the info that you are supposed to read!!!
If you accidentally gown down the wrong rabbit hole with an interview question and get on a worksheet that you do not want oris not required for your situation, you CANNOT remove that worksheet. The only resource is to START OVER WITH A BLANK FORM. If you override something it is nearly impossible to un-override it.
There seems to be NO WAY to import a K-1 that you just did into the personal side of this product.
If start a business form on one computer - good luck getting it read by the identical program on your spare machine. It won't let you.
The personal side (1040) seems to be like past versions. I'm not finished yet, but this has always been a decent product. It's just too bad that the business module is so TERRIBLE.
Rating therefore is primarily for the business module. When I finish my 1040s for this year I'll rate the personal module separately.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues, Hard to prepare, Hard to import
For over 10 years I have used it. Switched to the competitor in 2014 but filed with it the last 2. 2016 was my last. state tax was off by $1400. hard to tell how much it missed for federal.
User cannot toggle between Federal & State returns to seek info for State. Information given in State does not automatically revert to Federal, i.e., driver's license data. When an error is flagged, why cannot the correction be put directly on that screen instead of needing to fish around for the original entry?
