I have used H&R Block software for many years. It works pretty well and I don't find too many instances where I have to manually adjust the numbers. This year I had to restart a return because the program went crazy. Not sure what happened.
Pros: Easy to import documents, Fast

Difficult navigation; inadequate help screens

First, having to reduce my laptop's screen resolution to 1024x768 AND switch my toolbar from bottom to side (because that's the only way I could see the page tabs at the bottom of your "Whole Form" screens so I could navigate past the first page of a form), was irritating, because some toolbar items aren't as visible in the side position and some other programs/apps I needed to access while working in the tax SW don't display as well in 1024x768. Then, if some field on the Whole Form screen took you to a worksheet, there is no "back" button or "close" button to return you to the Whole Form when you finish the worksheet. Secondly, the SW asked me about QCD when I entered info for the first retirement account RMD, but didn't ask the question when I entered the 2nd retirement account RMD, forcing me to be a little creative about my entries in order for the SW to not include the (tax-free) QCD amount in my AGI. But HELP did not provide any explanation for why the QCD question was not being asked on both accounts. There were also a couple of numbers populated in the SW (possibly carried over from the previous year's return? possibly the sum of some other numbers I had entered on another screen?) that there was no explanation of where they came from, forcing me to waste a lot of time reviewing IRS instructions for that form/schedule, the previous year's return, etc trying to determine whether the populated number was correct (some were, some weren't). I have used H&R Block tax software for personal and business returns for over 20 years, but you apparently made a few programming changes in the last few years and the 2022 and 2023 versions were a pain in the neck to use. I'll be using some other SW for 2024.

Everything worked well until it came to efile. IRS wanted my PIN, which the program didn't ask me for and so rejected the first attempt. I looked it up and added it to my return. The software saved the updated return as an amended return, overwriting the original. When I tried to efille with the new info I received error messages that I couldn't file an amended return since the first wasn't accepted by the IRS. I went to IRS and used their Fillable Forms to manually input the numbers from the software. The first attempt was rejected because a line was empty. I corrected that, had no problem resubmitting and the return was finally accepted.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

Way too expensive given the amount of glitches AND lack of section explanations. TurboTax does a better job explaining things for the user. I feel this product is more for the person who understands how to do taxes. I did all right but not without a bit of online research for clarification.

Tried to use Block Business for a Form 1065. All the program would do is crash. Could not electronically file. After fourth attempts and starting over each time and reinputting the date the files always become corrupted. I had to purchase Turbo Tax to file the Form 1065. Will no longer use Block software, total waste of money.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I enter the incorrect the first then then the program keeps on saying the return was filed when I didn’t submit. The program glitch not sure because it was the last day of the extension very disappointing. I still can’t submit my tax return.I paid the software not right.
